Rude rip off, overpriced, underwhelming, and elitist. Burdick's has been in the area for decades. Unused to the trully excellent hot chocolate places that abound throughout Europe, tourists to this Harvard area of Cambridge, MA come to this exhorbitantly self-indulgent watering hole. The service is downright rude and incompetent. If a florescent orange haired diva is perched at the cash register, run the other way. She'll screw up your order and make you go to the end of the line before resolving her error. The foul-mouthed prima donna flinging in equal parts invectives and spittle at you and into your purchased items will insult you, and refuse to read receipts to confirm whether he correctly completed your order. He'll also fail to call out your order so that it cools and thickens into tepid sludge. This arrogant, crude-mouthed simpleton might be entertaining at a sleezy bar, but is absolutely inappropriate around young children. The man before me did not to get the drink that he'd ordered, and was told by the same cocao spitting jerk to speak with the manager who was "downstairs" and never emerged from there. The customer left, not wishing to subject his son to the rantings of this vain, beyond-rude rube.
The pastries are less than mediocre, way overpriced, and miniscule in size. Seating accommodates roughly 10 people at one time, so know that you'll be sipping your drab, grainy hot cacao and flavorless, cardboard textured confectionary elsewhere. Dish washers crash often. So does their single register, so come with lots of cash. Ultimately, spare yourself an experience that at best will prove disappointing and insulting, and drink a more favorably-priced, supermarket-purchased, better tasting instant...
Read moreI had a wonderful experience. I went in to buy a cookie and a small box of mice chocolates for one of my younger clients as a gift. I called back a little bit later just to get the nutritional facts on the cookie, because I'm making some changes in my eating, but having this cookie as a treat. Lucas, the store manager in the Cambridge store was very kind. Lucas was honest about the nutritional facts that he knew. He said that was the first time anyone ever asked him that question. We had a great conversation, and it taught me to enjoy this cookie, which tastes phenomenal. Mind you.I just came from the dentist.Next door to this store😇 The cookie is not super sweet and it's not bitter. It is just right and he took the time to have the conversation. This cookie was worth every single bite and calorie. I endured, and I will go back there each time.I need a treat and purchase that cookie because it's that delicious. I know customer service is everything and based on the way he answered the phone anne took the time to have the conversation let me know that he is very personable and kind. He asked my name, he was honest about what he knew. I feel like that is the epitome of being the best leader of any team... Is acknowledging people and allowing them to be heard and responding with truth and kindness. Lucas definitely rocks! Thoughtful kind, serving leaders are hard to come by and Lucas is...
Read moreThe chocolate is actually very good, but what really upset me was the disorganization and how the staff simply failed to help me and my friend, which resulted in a very bad time.
We were told that we had to take the hot chocolate to go if we didn't have a table, so we decided to wait until a table was vacant and then sat down. The staff member gave us a little plaque with a number to put on the table. The same staff member who refused to sell us the hot chocolate for there then came by and said we still had to go back to the cashier to get our order. We left our table with the number on top and went to get our order. Other people that had "to go" hot chocolates then went and took our table, even though they were technically prohibited from doing that, just like me and my friend were. We talked to the staff and basically received a "that's too bad" treatment, and then blamed it on us for not properly keeping our table, even though we were following their weird rules. During our talk with the manager, the place got crowded and our chances to stay there vanished, so we had to go away without properly enjoying our Saturday night. It is very unfortunate because this was my first visit to famous L.A. Burdick, and it...
