Theoretically, I am not a difficult person to please. All I really require to be happy in life is a good Iced Matcha Latte, which I allow myself to enjoy once per month or so. Yet, a truly excellent iced matcha latte is more difficult to come by than one might think. Often, they are too watery, too sweet, not creamy enough, and/or simply lack that subtle yet nuanced earthiness that gives the matcha flavor its signature appeal. Therefore, when I ordered my company lunch from Flour Bakery today and added on a matcha latte to treat myself, my expectations weren't through the roof. Besides, I had worried I'd made myself an annoyingly high-maintenance customer by writing in the notes on my drink, "Please only add one pump of vanilla syrup, I only want it to be a tiny bit sweet, thanks!"
However, as soon as I took my first sip, I was transported to a different dimension: a heavenly dimension that only an expertly hand-crafted drink could conjure! I was honored to discover that my syrup instructions were heeded with care, because the sweetness was delectably detectable without being overpowering. And this was only the beginning of the qualities that rendered this latte unrivaled in its deliciousness: The matcha powder was evidently of the highest quality, delighting my taste buds with a delicate yet profound flavor. The most mesmerizing part, though, was the way the exquisite matcha blended seamlessly with the creamy texture of the almond milk, creating a sensory experience that engendered comfort reminiscent of a warm hug on a cold day (despite the latte being iced).
So, one might wonder, "How much joy could one beverage possibly bring a person?" And the answer, if the beverage in question is a matcha latte from Flour Bakery, is "More than could be quantified!" I could not have been more pleased with my drink, and I hope the person who made it for me today at 10:22 AM knows that he/she is brightening people's days beyond belief, one delicious...
Read moreJust wanted to let everyone know that the bakery is amazing. The cakes and pastries are amazing. But The staff at the harvard square location seems incompetent. I had called to ask if they could set aside 2 slices of cake, and I would be there in 20-30 mins to pick it up, which they agreed to. When I reached the location, they didnt have the cake and they said they had sold it someone else due to error. And the staff who I had the conversation with was not around( now how did that happen when I reached the bakery in exactly 15 mins) I understand mistakes happen, which is fine and the cake got sold out. But the point is, the staff charged me without even checking that the cake was not available. And literally after 30 seconds of making the payment, I get told we dont have your order. It was put in, but it got sold to someone else. Then why did you guys charge without checking/ doing your due diligence? When I asked for refund, they said they cant process it now as the manager is unavailable and told me to call next morning if the money does not come back on the card. So now it is my responsibility to call the flour bakery and ensure that the money for which I was incorrectly charged ( due to incompetency of the staff) is refunded back on the card. The point is: I understand mistakes happen and my order was not fulfilled... which in the first place should have been communicated across to the customer if the cake got sold out. Second, DO NOT charge money from your customers without verifying if the item is not in stock and tell them that if the moneycannot get refunded now. And if it does not get refunded back, They should be the one to call up. This is ridiculous. My bad rating is only for the staff and...
Read moreFlour is overpriced & overrated. Everything is too much of something, and too expensive for what you get. I'm not sure if it varies by location? When they first opened & there were only 2 shops they were great, so I'm not sure if more cooks has created a quality control issue? Edit - it is now 2025 the Harvard Sq. location has gone way down in service and flavor. The other day I ordered a scone, that was sitting in the display where they take them from to give to you, and I waited almost 20m for someone to pick it up and put it in a bag. They used to have an assembly line type process and now it is just like people walking aimlessly getting in each others way. I ordered dinner at 4pm because i have to work really late, and waited for 45m for the notification it was ready. Finally i just went over there, and my food was just sitting on the pick up rack, now cold. it was a salad and egg sandwich, no meats. I am now eating my sandwich and still have not gotten a notification. 90% of the time they don't give you cutlery, and there is not a to go station that has it available, the drinks aren't made well, and the desserts have ALOT to be desired. stay away from the st. patricks cupcake. Im not a super picky person but if I'm going to spend $35 bucks for a small sandwich, soup and a drink then yes, I expect somewhat decent...
