We had one great experience and then one mediocre experience (which I think we can chalk up to issues with the scan to order system). Overall, would recommend downstairs if you want to grab some drinks, enjoy a great vibe, and aren't in a hurry to go anywhere else. Haven't been upstairs yet but looking forward to reserving a table for dinner in the future.
The first time we came in was on a Friday and we seated ourselves downstairs. It was super crowded, so it took a minute to get our drinks, but we were pleasantly surprised by how quickly food arrived after we ordered with the scan system (felt like 15 minutes, might've been a bit longer but still insanely fast given the quality of food and how busy the restaurant was). Food and drinks both excellent and a great value for the money. Not a single thing we wouldn't order again, and still so many more amazing looking drinks and dishes we didn't have room for in our stomachs (and livers).
Inspired by that experience, we dropped by a week later on Sunday at 6 pm. We were told there was a private event upstairs, but downstairs was open. With the private event going on, we expected service to be a bit slower, but seeing that downstairs wasn't very full, figured we could grab a leisurely dinner and head home by 7:30ish. We ordered at 6:15 and finally checked in with the hostess around 7:15 after seeing no sign of our food (although we saw a few runners looking very confused with stacks of food, it all eventually ended up at other tables). Turns out, something went wrong with our ticket and we finally got our food (to-go at this point, because we wanted to get home) around 7:40.
Hostess, chef, and manager all came by to apologize and they were really great about making sure we felt seen and heard, so we left feeling positive and will definitely be back again (and the to-go food was still excellent - obsessed with the lu rou fan).
Just wanted to share the experience so folks understand that it's still a pretty new restaurant with a few logistical kinks to work out, so you may get a seemless experience like we did that first time, but there's still a chance you'll need to be patient and wait longer than expected for food downstairs. If you're looking for guaranteed smooth, fast service, Wusong Road downstairs isnt quite there yet, but I'm sure they will be soon! Overall still highly recommend (with that one caveat), and I can't wait to come back again and check out the...
Read moreFood here is hands down the best Chinese food in Boston, and the atmosphere is top notch. The drinks are delicious. My friends rave about this place all the time.
The reason why Wusong is getting 4 stars from me is that I have been here twice now. Both times there has been an issue with service, and while they weren't entirely one person's fault specifically, I see an unfortunate trend occuring.
The first time I dined with Wusong, they were slammed. One server called in sick, so after our initial order was taken, out table was basically abandoned. We got our food, but no one checked in to see how it was, how our water and drinks were. Apparently there had been a shift in which tables were being covered by certain servers, but, being in the dead middle of the restaurant, all the servers thought we were being helped by someone else. We had trouble even paying our bill because of this. The manager eventually was flagged down (we didn't want to stiff the restaurant), and we were able to pay.
I has been looking forward to our second visit, because I really wanted the authentic Wusong experience before I wrote a review. We booked our table for an open 2:15 reservation on Sunday. When we arrived, we were told there was no reservation for us. After some back and forth, and us showing them both confirmations for our reservation (with a credit card deposit, mind you), they eventually found our reservation had been booked for 1:30, which was wildly off from our 2:15 time, and said there was absolutely no way they could fit us into the restaurant. After some more discussion, they "found some space for us": they cleared off some benches and a coffee table in the back for our party of 6 to eat at. It was nice of them to "find space," but would not have worked once our food arrived.
To the credit of Wusong Road, they eventually got us a proper table and comped our first round of drinks for us as apology, and the rest of the meal was, again, fantastic.
I can see why so many people love this restaurant; I want to too! And I recognize that hiccups happen. But I can't in good conscience give Wusong Road 5 stars until the service tightens up a little. I'm not looking for perfection, I just want to feel like I can make a reservation and be confident that I don't have to fight for...
Read morebeing an ohio Tiki bartender that travels for different bars, this is a MASSIVE space for what it is. it’s boston and a Tiki bar and also the holidays so I am glad I made a reservation—you can make one through their website or on open table (there might be more options, that is just how I booked). the decor is upscale and has boston dining written all over it, with holiday touches accentuating the gorgeous, mostly contemporary Asian end of their Tiki decor and space design. the bar relies heavily on mugs for presentation so a couple mugs came out chipped (sh** happens ¯(ツ)/¯, just the name of the game when you have such large and fast-paced service). didn’t ruin the taste or experience obviously, and that’s just what happens after each cycle of use and abuse. welcome to Tiki!! menu was well thought-out in terms of cocktails and bites, presentation was gorgeous, and I even ended my reservation asking the host if there was space for me to hop to the bar. mild wait (again, it’s the holidays in boston, there WILL be a wait) but everyone was accommodating and kind. snagged another plate and cocktail to end the evening, as well as a mug to take home for the experience.
only hitch…the AI. always a cowabummer to see such beautiful, authentic, and limitless possibilities in the Tiki artistry community gone to the dawgs. loved the concept, I thought the pacing and layout of the menu was great (also—a glossary!? ok genius!? this place is well-staffed and I never once felt like I had to beg for attention from staff but i’m sure this saves SO much table time) but the AI was just a bummer.
loved the chefs personal mug collections on display (two creature from the crab rangoons, slay) and will absolutely be back for everything about this spot. hoping to come back off-season so I can actually talk to staff and geeki on Tiki. oh, and can I say—prices are killer. like for where you are and the artistry of what you get this menu is so perfectly priced.
overall, this was a gorgeous boston dining experience and a welcome addition to the local and Tiki community. mahalo Wusong! cheers to...
