Originally left a 5 stars review but after ~8 more visits, this went from the new boba place I recommend to all my friends to one I no longer want to visit again.
I really liked their mochi, but its quality and quantity are inconsistent across drinks. Once I saw an employee scrapping the bottom of an almost empty container, smearing almost dried up mochi around the sides of a plastic cup, it looked like my drink, so I asked. With the sad looking container in hand, the employee replied “we make our mochi in small batches, it’s always fresh”. The end result was there’s barely any mochi and texture wasn’t fresh.
Another time I tried their taro boba, their taro paste had many tiny grinds of rawish tasting pieces, so that became the first and last time I got it.
Through another bad experience I learnt that crème brûlée can only go on ice version of drinks with that description. Charge remains the same, topping’s just missing, when asked, the response was “that’s just how we make it”. Would be nice if they kindly mention the hot version doesn’t have this selling feature at ordering time.
Then brûlée could mean caramel drizzles than the crème brûlée tops. I shared the description is confusing and I may have mistakenly ordered the wrong thing. The immediate response from the employee was “if you want the other version, would you mind pay again as that’s extra charge”. Interesting response, a little rude, may be okay-ish if that extra charge for it in hot drinks is removed when the topping can’t be provided.
Funny thing is, there’s also no visible caramel drizzle in the Thai brûlée tea, the reply was “it must have vanished to the sides”. That’s the moment I knew, there’s no point in saying more or try another drink.
Wish the place kept its great start. This is too many negative experiences within less than 10 visits, frequency is too high. Would be nice when customers offered feedback, first consider its validity than immediately argue back, and don’t brush away visible flaws in the end product. The place is not at a convenient location to get to, all the more reasons quality and customer service...
Read moreA cute and very nicely decorated boba shop has just opened it's doors in the Cambridge neighborhood. After stumbling upon it on none other than Yelp, I figured it'd have to try it out and see what this boba shop was all about. When you walk in the fragrance of tea leaves and sweet aroma of brown sugar fill the air. The aesthetic is minimal sporting the brand's colors of white and blue. The baristas were very friendly and helpful especially with their very unique menu that is different from most. Like a tiramisu latte? Mochi matcha? Grape cheese? After some chatting I finally settled on the matcha Mochi latte which was simply AMAZING. I didn't know what to expect but the Mochi liquid if you can call it that as a topping in the drink was sooo soft and what Mochi consistency should be like!! The matcha latte was solid as well. My only adjustment next time is perhaps a little more sugar as I tend to not like sweet drinks but tried it at 50% sugar and to my surprise it wasn't sweet at all. I probably also wouldn't include the crystal Boba next time. But for a new shop, Teaholic has a lot of potential!! With minimal but sleek branding and a wide array of drinks as well as complimentary toppings in every combination it's quite...
Read moreA chic and welcoming new boba shop near Kendall Square.
For the past few weeks, I’ve been coming to Teaholic for my boba cravings. Kendall Square area has been missing a good boba spot for a while, so Teaholic has filled this niche.
The food options here are limited, focusing primarily on macarons and pre-made refrigerated sandwiches. During my past visits, I tried the Avocado Ham Cheese and Egg Ham Cheese sandwiches, and both were solid for the price. On the other hand, the macarons, while diverse in flavors, felt slightly overpriced at 2.95 each.
The signature drinks at Teaholic are undoubtedly their tea lattes. Of the several I tried, the Strawberry Matcha Latte and the Strawberry Mochi Latte were my favorites. With its thick and chunky strawberry syrup, they offered a delightful sugar boost, albeit a bit challenging to mix. The Mochi Latte was also unique, with warm mochi bits nestled at the bottom that provide a chewy, indulgent texture with each sip.
Teaholic seems to be getting increasingly popular among the students nearby, so on the weekend afternoons, there might be 15-20 minute. Since the seatings are also limited, I recommend placing an online order in advance if you want to...
