What happened to this place? Husband and I were looking forward to getting a cup of coffee in a little something in a mom-and-pop setting so we stopped. My coffee was great because they made a fresh pot however they forgot to bring it to me I had to ask for it and I never got a refill from my waitress, but from asking another. My husband's coffee was old and he was too polite to ask them to make fresh. My husband got the big $8 Coney sandwich and it was good I got the chicken cashew salad that I've got there for many years there was no cheese and no cashews, how sad! We ordered a basket size which is $8 of mushrooms and another of zucchini fries, to share...and the amount that we received of each basket could barely fill one cup. It was really pitiful! We express our feelings to our waitress and she apologized so we asked if the business was having a hard time and she said yes it was. It makes us more sad that the business is having a hard time than not getting our money's worth. We ended up ordering a basket of fries for another $8 and it was actually a basket and was the normal amount you would expect. On the side where the chocolate is the cases are barren it's actually very sad. The young man that waited on us at the counter was extremely inexperienced and fumbling it was clear he would have rather been anywhere else, quite awkward. I gave it three stars, it's a gem of an old place but it's not being ran effectively anymore. We will stop in again just to see if things improve maybe it was just an off-kilter time on a Sunday afternoon. It would be a real shame to lose...
Read moreI love the set up of this place, the interior deco and comfy retro feel....And the employees are very friendly . But a few things fall short of 5 stars.... I went into the back room, that they don't use very much. I think it's saved for party rentals...A few places in the restaurant you can see that they had some roofing problems...Stains from leaks on the walls in a couple of places...One of those I saw in this room. But if I was the manager, I would have cleaned the drywall that turned liquid during the roof leak and dripped down on one of the metal hanging light fixtures, then re-solidified! I wonder how long that has been there!? Ive cleaned alot worse during many of my days! Yeah, I imagine you can't get a young person to get up the courage to do a job like that...But thats what an OWNER TAKES ON to keep his place ON TOP! Also 9.95 for a qt of carry out ice cream? take-out candy of some sort that my friend broke down and bought for $14/lb?....2 pcs of deep fried fish and lotsa shoe-string fries for 11 something? I'm just not used to prices like those....The inflation this federal administration has cultivated is out of control and has ruined every ones understanding of the value of a dollar and what jobs pay well and which ones don't. We are right on...
Read moreAh, Milk and Honey, my love. Possibly my favorite restaurant of my entire life. And I’ve been going here since I was 5. So like 44 years. For a while in my late twenties I would come in for lunch so often I could just say “give me the usual”. Gotta love a place like that. “The usual” for me is a patty melt with fries. Ah the greasy salty goodness! Sure sometimes the young guy running the grill burns the edges now and then but over 44 years it all averages out to…love. The best chocolate malt anywhere. It’s what I measure every other milkshake against. If I’m in a hurry I’ll get the malt and a hotdog to go. Only hot dog I’ll eat! Grilled and put in a split top, toasted bun, wrapped in foil with pickle slices crammed in on the side. I can just taste it now! One time I found out where they bought their hotdogs from so I could buy several hundred for a church dinner I was doing. When I’m there for ice cream I make my special recipe: chocolate peanut butter ice cream with marshmallow sauce and almonds. One of my best concoctions. In my 44 years I’m honestly not sure I’ve ever gotten anything but those items. Yes it’s teenagers making cheap greasy food. But it’s the experience of a lifetime...
