El Campesino is a pretty decent full-service Mexican restaurant located on busy Cleveland Avenue NW in Canton, Ohio. The restaurant includes a full bar which is accessible from inside the restaurant proper but also has a separate entrance from outside. There are plenty of comfortable tables and booths at which to sit while you dine. The menu is pretty extensive, check out my photos for the entire eight page menu.
Upon being seated we were immediately brought chips and salsa. I asked for some queso dip to go with the chips as well. The salsa was pretty ordinary but the queso dip was very delicious. Having not dined here before I asked the server for suggestions. He recommended Molcajete which I enjoyed. It is steak, chicken, shrimp and vegetables and cheese served in a mortar which appears to be made of volcanic rock. The liquid in the mortar was boiling when I received it and continued to boil throughout most of my meal. The dish is accompanied with rice and beans, pico de gallo, sour cream and guacamole salad. It is served with warm flour tortillas. It's a whole lot of food for $14. My wife and my mother both ordered El Campesino Fajitas which is beef, chicken and shrimp cooked with onions and bell peppers. It was accompanied with all the same items as my Molcajete. My father ordered the Quesadilla Supreme. It's a huge flour tortilla grilled and stuffed with cheese, mushrooms, chopped beef, onions and vegetables. It was accompanied by rice, lettuce, guacamole, pico de gallo and sour cream. Everyone enjoyed their food. The portions are huge so we all had enough left over for another meal the next day. Prices are very reasonable.
I enjoyed my entree but to be honest I found it to be a little bland. My wife felt the same about hers. I added lots of delicious hot sauce and some black pepper to enhance the taste. The service was excellent throughout our visit, it was very fast and friendly. Our server was very attentive from start to finish. 3.5 stars founding up to 4 for the exceptional service and...
Read moreWas just looking for somewhere new to go because we were tired of our regular Mexican restaurant not in a bad way but wanted to switch it up a bit’ so we found this place and gave it a go’ upon arriving there things seem well we were seated gave chips and salsa and then our waiter never came to our table we sat there for I don’t know how long watching waiters serve everyone there but our table it must of been 20 to 25 mins before I decided to ask where our waiter was’ I told another waiter can we get service and he said okay wait a minute? Then someone came who was so dry we all knew he didn’t want to serve us’ anyhow we ask for a full Margarita pitcher so they bring it out and there was absolutely no liquor in the margarita?? It taste like a slushy from a gas station’ so I complained and they bring out another one and it was just a little bit of liquor added ? We are use to Mexican restaurant it’s our favorite and Mexican restaurants have some of the strongest drinks I have had so I knew something was definitely off with this place’ where we come from the Mexican restaurants treat us very well I hate to say our race was a factor but if not then what could it have been???? The food finally came at reasonable time and it was just ok’ when we were ready to check out the bills were so confusing they had them all screwed up’ it was just horrible and I will never go or recommend anyone else’s to go there’ they definitely didn’t get a tip at all but some coins that were left over from the bill’ these people were so strange .. they will wish one day that they...
Read moreWhat's usually excellent salsa tasted like 🍅 juice/ paste. No Lil chunks of onion/ pepper/ cilantro. I wish I'd got pictures after how they responded to the complaints. My order was just not right. Menu gives a description. I ordered that. My nachos only came without any lettuce/ guac/ sour cream/ tomatoes. They took it back... keep in mind they brought my food 5 minutes b4 Steve, Which is is poor service period. They took my nachos back. 5 minutes later I get my same nachos for 2nd time, Steve's 1st time. So what was nachos chips with burger on 1 side n beans on other side ??? Came back to me with ton of shredded lettuce on it. Guacamole thrown on 1 side sour cream on other side and half a tomato slice on it. Looked like a lettuce haystack! I so should have got pictures. It was ridiculous! I didn't eat any of it. I couldn't even find chips atp! Steve was on phone trying to get the owner cuz of the attitudes. Then Maria pops off saying she's calling police cuz we weren't paying our bill. Wth? We have no issue paying our bill. But we aren't paying for food we didn't eat. We ate there at least 1x a month for 3 or 4 years atp. Salsa had consistency and flavor of a a V8 drink this time but we got threatened with police for refusing food and commenting that it was definitely...
