Atmosphere was great! The food, beyond the appetizer, was horrible. In addition, the service was awful. My husband and I went for an early dinner. Arriving, the restaurant was packed and we were promptly seated. Our waitress came and took our drink and appetizer order. We ordered two teas and a pound of the peel and eat red shrimp. The drinks and appetizer were served quickly. This gave us hope that it would be a good dining experience. Once we finished the appetizer we ordered our entrees. My husband ordered the Capt'n platter which comes with fried oysters, grilled shrimp, scallops, and flounder with french fries, coleslaw, and hushpuppies. I ordered the Jr. Surf and turf which comes with red shrimp (grilled or fried) and a 4 oz filet (medium rare) with one side. I chose fries and added an additional side of bacon cream corn. While we waited on our meal, a musician set up and began to play his set. It was the highlight of our experience. After some time the food was delivered to our table. There were issues with our food immediately. My steak was OVER cooked. It was like a piece of leather, the corn was cold, the fries had sugar on them and my husband's drink was empty. The waitress NEVER came back to check to see if we were good or needed anything. When we were done our waitress came back to bring our ticket. I mentioned to her that the steak (I did not eat) was tough and overcooked. She offered a discount on a dessert. All in all this was a disappointing dining experience! If you choose to go, make sure to order your fries unseasoned and stick to the peel and eat shrimp.

The thrill is 'gone'. A restaurant either meets or exceed expectations or it won't. In Salty Mules case they fell horribly flat, truth, it was all terrible. First, anyone who's visited the Chesapeake Bay or traveled 'anywhere' along the eastern coast of the U.S. know what a jumbo lump crab cake is. You can Google an image of one, they sell them on Home Shopping Network every holiday! Photos of what we were served attached! It was not JUMBO, not back-fin, at best it was what you might find on the newspaper after eating a bushel of crabs. Sin of all sins I dared ask the teenage waiter, who's voice could barley carry through his mask, for Old Bay - who then asked - what's that? This is a seafood restaurant - right?! It's simply disingenuous to claim you sell 100% Jumbo Lump crab cakes - 2 of these were over $30! Moving on, the clam chowder (or should I say can soup) was watery, both my wife and I fished around the bowl for a single clam, 'none' to be found. CHOWDER IS THICK has 'body' and clam chowder has the shucked clam 'liquor' as a main component... what was served had none of that. Asparagus was cold and hard, fried oysters greasy, clam strips were chicken finger sized with WAY too much breading. Look, I get it, the restaurant business is tough especially now but if you can't deliver what your claim to be selling - it's a recipe for failure. I want you to succeed - I honestly wish you the very best. But none of what we were served was even close to good classic coastal seafood...the kind of seafood you just can't wait to eat more of. Caveat emptor - Good luck.

I was craving seafood and a friend recommended this place. Upon entry, the atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for, great decor and even better choice of music. In an effort to satisfy my fish craving, I ordered the grouper basket. My wife does not eat seafood, so she ordered the smash burger. We also ordered the fried green tomato appetizer. Before we could enjoy the appetizer, we noticed a large hair across the corner. We told the waitress and she replied, "I will get you a new one." We are pretty convinced they gave us these same tomatoes but on a new plate as the 'new ones' came out within mere seconds. There was no way they would have had time to prepare another order. The burger was absolutely insulting as the bun was so much larger than the meat. My wife referenced the old wendy's commercial "Where's the beef?" The grouper (my favorite) was so overcooked I could barely eat it. I've honestly had better tasting fish at Captain D's. The fries on both of our orders were cold and limp. All of the food was very bland and had very little flavor. Thank goodness there was a salt shaker on the table. What surprised us most was that management did not even have the decency to come and apologize for the hair in the food or offer any discount on said appetizer. This was probably one of the worst dining experiences I have had in quite a few years. Again, fun atmosphere and great music, and it might be a good place to meet with friends and have some drinks, but I would definitely skip the food.

I’m giving 2 stars because of the recent experience I had here with takeout service. I will say the food is very flavorful and decently priced and that I’ve never had an issue with service until this visit. I called to place a carry out order at 7:40 (they close at 8:30 on Thursdays) I asked if it was too late to place an order. The girl who answered the phone went and checked and told me someone would be with me shortly. My husband and I decided to get in our car and head towards the restaurant while on hold. 8 min later someone picked up the phone and immediately hung up on me. I called back from my husbands phone and then just asked to place a to-go order and I was told okay someone would be with me soon. By this time 13 more min passed and I’m still on hold only now I’m actually standing at the restaurant bar waiting for any wait staff to acknowledge me and I’m still on the phone on HOLD! I had to approach a waitress who was already busy checking out one of her tables, for assistance. (No hostess was upfront either). Her name was Katie!!! She was very kind and helpful. As I explained to her that I was still on hold with them which she could see the phone number to the restaurant as I held it up, she was shocked that nobody had answered or come to help me yet. Another waitress overheard what I was telling Katie who at first seemed concerned that I was still on hold, so she asked the bartender for the bar phone to check to see if I was on hold, she looked at it and walked away. I assumed she saw that I was still on hold and would be understanding of why I was upset. Instead, she just walked away and ignored me and did not show 1 ounce of empathy or concern. From what I gathered, it was the bartenders job to answer the phone and take my order. Katie graciously took my order and apologized for the situation and said she would come get me at my car when the food was ready. Before I walked out, the bartender did come over and apologized and told me she was very busy and she couldn’t answer the phone but when I told her someone answered the phone and hung up on me and then I had to call back from my husbands phone, she said that wasn’t her. I understand that food service is a demanding job however, the lack of concern and their poor customer service blows my mind. I worked in the food business for 11 years and beverage business for 24 years and would never make a patron feel unwelcome. Katie was the only waitstaff who cared. Please give Katie and the chef some love if you go here but I’ll have second thought about coming back. I’m sorry, rudeness and lack of empathy is unacceptable. Poor customer service no motivation is bad for business. I try to eat and shop local but it’s hard to go back to places where you are made to feel unwelcome. Katie got my tip for helping me. Give her a raise or ask to be seated in Katie’s section if you go here. Again food is yummy… especially the Jr...

I rated this restaurant as a single star because of the drinks. Those were good! The rest of the stuff was horrible!

We were a party of 10 at the restaurant at 2 pm in the afternoon for an actual birthday! We picked that time as it was smack in the middle of the day with no Georgia Football playing so we knew that the place wouldn’t be busy. And, it wasn’t!

Out of the 10 of us, 5-of is we’re unhappy with our food to the point that we didn’t eat it! The other 5-ate some of it or even most of it.

Three of us had to return our food to the kitchen. Not once, but twice!

Two of us had the 4 oz. Filet with our shrimp or lobster. Both Filet steaks were rancid! Yes, as in “bad” or “spoiled” meat!! Yuck!!

Two of us had lobster that came to us fried instead of broiled as asked. Neither of us is allowed to eat fried foods for medical reasons. We returned these to the server and in about 3-minutes we were brought out new lobsters. Or were we???? No, we were not!! They simply pulled off the breading and reserved us the same exact two lobsters!! These lobsters were greasy…still full of breading…and unable to be eaten by either of us!!

Finally, a member of our party went and spoke to the Manager about this. He apparently apologized and then said that he would “take care of it!”

When our bill came, three of the meals were removed from the bill. That was it!!

No Manager came to our table to talk to us about the food and/or apologize to anyone of us who were still at the table! He obviously didn’t care…

Oh, and did I forget to mention that our Server seemed to hate waiting on us! She had a sour personality. Acted like we were inconveniencing her by our being there. And was very inattentive to the point that we started to get up to get what we needed (condiments and all) ourself! But yes, we still tipped her well in spite of the “bad” service that we received!

Bottom line to this review…2-steaks, both rancid! 2-lobsters, both unbeatable! 1-Fettuccine, no flavor at all! 1-Chicken Sandwich, no flavor at all. 2-Seafood platters, so greasy that one person at the table had to go buy dinner elsewhere to push that through his system as it made him feel so sick! 4-people leaving the restaurant without having eaten at all, and now having to go elsewhere. Not good food! Absolutely not good service! My recommendation…be like my family and NEVER go there either for the first time, or like us, again!!!!

But again, the drinks were wonderful from the bar and because of that I can give them the single star on...

I went to the salty mule for lunch, after hearing great reviews. I arrived casually, and was greeted and seated promptly. My waitress arrived quickly and was courteous.

I explained that this was my first time, and she offered several suggestions. I ended up settling on one of their double smash burgers - and added bacon. I was surprised to see Gouda cheese as an option, so I opted for that. I'm a meat and cheese kinda guy and I deliberately explained to my waitress that I would like only meat and Gouda cheese, plus the bacon.

My food arrived in a reasonable amount of time, and the presentation was acceptable for the price point... Except my burger had cheddar cheese instead of the Gouda that I had asked for. I'm the kind of person that doesn't mind a switch up most of the time, and decided today wasn't the day I'd get Gouda on my burger. No worries.

I tried my fries first and they were fine. Nothing remarkable, just fresh fries. Then I tried my burger. The first bite left an odd taste in my mouth that I noticed right away. I gulped my tea to get the bite down, and started on my second bite.

At this point, my waitress was just stopping in to check on my food, and my second bite was a dead give away. I flipped my burger and pulled off the bottom bun. My burger had mustard on it... But not just mustard as in, 'we made a mistake,' and I was given the wrong burger. The mustard had clearly been wiped off of the burger patty and a new bun and been used. The mustard was only visible in the crevices of the beef.

Now I'm not a really picky easter, but I like my food the way I order it... And... Mustard ranks right up there with pickles on my list of acceptable foods to eat (gah!!!).

In fairness the waitress witnessed my displeasure and immediately offered to remake the burger. However, I had to decline because I simply did not have the time to wait for my food to be remade - I was on my lunch break.

All in all, this seems like it could have been a minor deal, but I can't get past the fact that these guys thought it would be acceptable to wipe the mustard off my burger and serve it to me anyways.

Needles to say, I won't be returning after this experience. Best of luck to all the other repeat customers - I'm glad service was...
