I am extremely disappointed with the lack of action and negligence displayed by [Code Compliance]. As an office responsible for public safety, it is disheartening to encounter such apathy and disregard for the well-being of residents. In July 2023, I reported the construction of an improperly built deck that had not been approved by the homeowner association (HOA) or the city. The deck poses a significant safety hazard, not only for the owner but also for the neighboring units due to their attachment. Upon contacting [Code Compliance] regarding this matter, I was initially assured that there would be provisions made to rectify the situation. However, to my astonishment, I was ultimately informed that they were unwilling to take any action and suggested simply waiting until the property is sold, which would affect the sale. This response is unacceptable, as it prioritizes the financial implications over the safety and well-being of the residents. The fact that the deck remains unsafe even after my report is deeply concerning and indicates a severe lack of accountability within [Code Compliance]. l urge [Code Compliance] to fulfill its primary duty of ensuring public safety by promptly addressing this issue. The deck should undergo the necessary approval processes and be brought up to the required standards or, if necessary, be removed entirely to eliminate the safety hazards it poses. I hope that [Code Compliance] recognizes the seriousness of this matter and takes immediate action to rectify the situation. Called today to ask details about the First Friday music show in downtown Canton as we did not see much information on their website about putting out chairs, time, bringing food/cooler, and so on. Spoke with a very nice lady named Mitzi who helped us with all the information that we needed.
