Three stars is a bit tough for this lovely hotel (so I went four) but I tend to believe that sleep quality is the most important thing when it comes to hotel stays. Also please note that I understand everyone has different views on what makes a comfortable bed. With that said, feeling the springs in the mattress digging into you while you try to have a good sleep is probably not anyone's idea of a good comfy bed. Unfortunately, this has been my experience this week at The Simsbury Inn. Other than that, it's a lovely, quaint New England hotel with very courteous and helpful staff, a very nice restaurant as well as a separate breakfast cafe and free continental breakfast every morning usually available until around 11am which I love as I'm not an early riser. Coffee and teas are available compliments of the hotel 24 hours/day. Room service is available until 10pm which is a nice return to normal after my travels during the peaks of Covid times. There is a decent indoor pool, hot tub, and a gym for guests which are open and available daily until 10pm. Nice touch with towel service in the pool area. I've been enjoying what I assume is freshly baked pumpkin bread every morning along with coffee or tea free of charge. There are also fresh bagels and cream cheese, fruit preserves, muffins, Greek yogurt, fruit, and other goodies every day. Ice machines and soda vending on each floor are convenient. If you like to charge or power things near the bed you should pack an extension cord. Outlets are not easily accessible by the bed in my room. (not a big deal just a note) I'm in the middle of an eight night stay for business and aside from the less than perfect mattress I'm certainly enjoying my stay. (Frequent Business Traveler and Hotel Guest all over the US) New mattresses would prompt me to up my rating to...
Read moreAfter calling twice with no answer (because this location is sometimes closed during odd hours, runs out of food, etc.) we ordered food for two last night via drive-thru. An astounding 4 items were missing and the sandwich (KFC) was wrong. It was too much to not remedy. I went back and indicated what was wrong/missing. After waiting for what felt like too long, I was handed a bag. I went to look to make sure everything was there and accurate. The drive-thru attendant said, “It’s all there”. I said 2 items are missing and there’s a side of mashed potatoes I didn’t order(?!). They said we’re out of [the missing thing]. I said, OK? They said they’d have to make some. I said, OK. I asked why this experience was so bad? He said, “I don’t know. It’s a bad night. We’re messing up everyone’s order.” As I sat there on my phone waiting there was conversation among the employees at the window, then I heard “F%ck it” and so I turned to pay attention and they said, “Here’s a free crunch wrap supreme and some free cookies.” I didn’t want any of those things though I guess I appreciate the gesture? We ended up throwing out the crunch wrap because we were too full after our cold-by-the-time-it-was-sorted-out meal. I wondered too how the franchise owner/manager tracks inventory. The whole experience was so dumbfoundingly bad....
Read moreMy husband and I went here for a late dinner, and I ordered (and paid for) two items with extra cheese. When the items arrived they did not have extra cheese (this is probably something the manager would debate, which is fine, that's not where my biggest concern exists). We have eaten at this location on a number of occasions, and, in all honesty, I've never had a problem with this type of behavior before (normally the people are friendly), though we usually get the food to go. Anyway, I took my food back up and asked if I could have a little more cheese, to which I heard a gentleman (who I now realize was the night manager), say, "no, she'll have to pay for double if she wants more." I guess my first reaction was how rude he sounded across the counter, and when he finally emerged he repeated his statement. I told him I had already paid for extra cheese, and he repeated his statement, and stated it had extra cheese...he said he had to watch his inventory. Honestly, the cheese factor is one that I don't understand, but nothing compared to how insulted I feel by his attitude; this is why I will not return to...
