Legit Mexican Food! We were out and about the other day and had an urge for some tacos or similar. I did a little internet search and found La Poblanita. Reviews sounded good so we gave it a try. This place is great! It's located in a strip mall. You enter into a large room with many tables and chairs. To the right is a massive cooler filled with all sorts of beers, waters, sodas, etc. and you serve yourself. Bottle openers are on the tables. To the front left is a cashier stand. On the back wall is a series of menu boards showing what is available and prices. A server brought out a basket of tortilla chips and a trifecta of salsas. The darker orange salsa surely had chipotle peppers in it as it had a wonderful smokiness to it and not to spicy. The other two had some serious heat, too much for us. I ordered a small/regular size Michelada ($5.99) and my wife pulled a bottle of water (99 cents) from the cooler. Most of the patrons were drinking the Micheladas, many with the super sizers - maybe a liter. My Michelada came out with a nice jumbo shrimp and cucumber slice garnish and the rim had been dipped in tahin. What a surprise to see the shrimp! We both ordered burritos - my wife chose al pastor (pork) and I opted for steak ($14.99 ea.). Out came some serious burritos accompanied with a small, undressed salad of crisp lettuce, tomato and cucumber. The burritos are LOADED with meat, and just the right amount of rice, cheese, cilantro and onion. My steak was extremely tender, not chopped up into super small pieces as is typical. And the flavor was some of the best steak I've ever had. Likewise, my wife's al pastor was the best she had ever had. We could only eat half and brought the other half home for lunch the next day. Everything we saw coming out of the kitchen looked delicious. In one visit we became fans and will...
Read moreI haven't tried everything on the menu, but anything and everything I've ever gotten from here has been so ridiculously delicious. It's hard to describe exactly, but it's kind of like when you cook your own steak at home on the grill and you stir-fry some peppers and onions, and everything turns out so insanely perfect, but then later you try to cook the same thing again and you just can't seem to duplicate that exact flavor. You reallize that there are a lot of details that go into it, and it's actually quite an art to get it that perfect. Well that's what it's like when you order food from this place, except it's not quite as fun as doing it at home yourself. But one issue you might have is that after ordering from here your expectations will end up being much higher, so when you cook the same things for yourself at home later it kind of ends up being a little anti-climactic when you can't quite get it to turn out as tasty as what you got from this place! I'm just warning you, lol. And they keep the kitchen so clean! You can see it from over the counter. Plus I had to service some of his equipment in the kitchen, and even behind the refrigerators and other equipment where in most restaurants it gets pretty nasty, not here it wasn't. And even though it's also a little store with shelves of various Mexican food products and such, there is a pretty good amount of seating there too. It doesn't offer the ambiance of a fine-dining experience, but the food is outrageously good, so that's what this place...
Read moreI’ve been a regular at La Poblanita for years, but after what I witnessed today, I will NEVER set foot in this place again. It was, without question, the most unprofessional and disgusting behavior I’ve ever seen in a restaurant — and it didn’t come from just one staff member, but several.
A customer politely explained to the waitress that he was allergic to shrimp, yet the drink he was served came with a shrimp on it. None of these drinks are listed on a menu, nor are there any descriptions that could’ve warned him. Instead of handling the situation with professionalism, the waitress coldly said she could change the drink but would still charge him for the one he couldn’t drink. The customer calmly said he wouldn’t be ordering anything else.
And here’s the worst part — not only did the restaurant still charge him for the undrunk drink, but a tall, skinny waitress came over and verbally attacked the customer with vulgar and offensive language. I couldn’t believe my ears. The rest of the staff just stood by, excusing the behavior instead of trying to de-escalate or make things right.
I’ve supported this restaurant for years, but this kind of behavior is unacceptable in any business. You can serve great food for a decade, but it only takes one moment to show your true colors.
La Poblanita – you’ve lost a loyal customer. I strongly advise anyone reading this to take your business elsewhere. There are plenty of restaurants that know how to treat people with...
