Overall the food was good but not for the price (almost $50 for 2 pizzas and water) and service/atmosphere was mediocre. More descriptive experience below.
Speck Experience:
We were acknowledged and seated quickly which was nice becuase it was mother's day weekend and SEMO graduation night, but they weren't really busy.
Menu doesn't have many pasta options which was disappointing. Waited over 10 minutes for a waitress. We ordered water to drink (1st round came in an ice cold bottle š but the second round was room temperature, disappointing) and we ordered All You Can Meat and a build your own. Prices are ridiculously high for the amount of pizza you get...we paid almost $50 for 2 pizzas and water...crazy.
Once we got our pizza it was good, the red sauce was good tasted fresh with strong flavor and the meaty ingredients were good too.
Rather than laying our bill on the table and saying, "Here's your bill." the waitress came over with our bill held it out arm extended and turned her back to us having a conversation with someone else without saying a word which seemed kind of rude and odd. She stood there back to us until I grabbed it. Weird.
The boss of this place was about to come in and all the employees yelled, "Boss is here!" And began sweeping and looking busy. I see this a lot when going out (it happens everywhere) but first I've heard of employees yelling it over and over in front of customers. I certainly wouldn't want my employees doing that in front of customers.
Lastly, the music choices were terrible and was too loud for the small amount of customers in there. I certainly wouldn't bring my kids here due to the disgusting lyrics in the music choices and prices of everything on the menu.
Overall this is one of those places where you try it and probably never go back. Nothing about this place attracts me to make me want to come back...maybe if the prices were lower or if the quality of service/food/atmosphere matched...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIām not gonna lie, Speck has a LOT of room for improvement and I canāt fathom the current model of operations holding up longevity-wise. We visited today and at less than half capacity, we waited 45 minutes for a pizza that came out both watery and a bit dark. Our first visit was nothing like this, but this one left a bit of a sour taste from the way a lot of things were handled. The server almost seemed like they didnāt know where they were, she seemed confused a lot and even started taking our order and abruptly stopped us and said sheās sorry, she needs to go take another tableās order first. We had also gotten bored by the time our pizzas came out so we were watching the sole pizza oven at the time ours were made, and saw the chef was noticeably distracted while making them, as a guy was following him down the line from across the bar and chatting it up. Thatās all well, but I really think the place could benefit from having more than one oven and more than one chef at any given moment, given itās very evident theyāre struggling to keep a normal business flow and quality at even half or less capacity occupied in the room.
Iām rooting for Speck, quite honestly the first visit was the best pizza Cape has ever had, and almost the best pizza weāve had across the country, so I canāt wait to see the day everything is streamlined and things like service quality and consistency in the pizza is perfected. I know they can do it...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was really wanting to like this place. I was disappointed. First off the pizza was good and the atmosphere was nice. We ordered the American pizza and it was great. We also got an order of Arancine and it was good. The service was great as well. That is where it ended. We ordered the Caprese salad to split and it totally wasnāt worth the $11 price. Then we ordered a piece of Red Velvet cake and it had been sitting out uncovered because it was hard. Actually, the whole cake was uncovered so when he asked if we wanted a different piece I said no. The real problem was that while we were sitting and trying to eat we were constantly bothered by gnats. They would fly and land on our plates and on us. It was quit bothersome to say the least. We went in December so I was shocked to see gnats in this cooler weather. Overall, the pizza was good and the service was good but it isnāt enough to bring me back. For the price point(we spent around $70 with tip)...
