A Hidden Gem in Carbondale – Aban Kitchen is a Must-Try!
As a long-time patron of Aban Kitchen, I can confidently say that this restaurant is an absolute treasure in Carbondale. The owners are some of the warmest, most hospitable people you’ll ever meet, and their passion for authentic Middle Eastern cuisine shines through in every dish.
The food here is nothing short of spectacular. The clay oven bread is a must-have—freshly baked, perfectly crisp on the outside, and fluffy on the inside, making it the ideal companion to their hummus or just about any other meal. The kofta kabab is an explosion of flavor, expertly seasoned and grilled to perfection. And if you’re a shawarma lover, both the chicken and beef shawarma are outstanding—juicy, aromatic, and packed with the perfect balance of spices.
If you visit on the weekend, don’t miss out on their Adeni chai—a rich, fragrant, and perfectly spiced tea that’s the perfect way to end your meal. It’s a comforting and delightful treat that keeps me coming back.
Aban Kitchen is more than just a restaurant—it’s a place where you feel like family, where every bite takes you on a journey, and where the food speaks for itself. If you’re in Carbondale and haven’t tried it yet, you’re truly...
Read moreThis is my favorite Middle Eastern restaurant in our area. It’s not your typical Gyro place at all. It’s a real experience and the food is excellent. I judge a good Middle Eastern restaurant by the quality of basmati rice that they buy, this rice is some of the best I have ever eaten. Light, fluffy, very long grained yet form kernels, and spiced with something delicate that I cannot name, but is addictive. The last time I was there, I splurged and ordered the lamb chops, and I was not disappointed. It was more food than I could eat, and so I had to take some home to eat the next day. Poor poor me. No really, these folks are really really nice people and the atmosphere is, peaceful and quiet, not like your usualAmerican restaurants with loud music blaring, and several TVs. This is the kind of place that you would want to take your favorite person on date night, or take business colleagues to discuss important stuff. I hope people can support this business as much as possible so that they will be successful. The pandemic was hard on them and I’m glad they...
Read moreJust wow! Ordered the beef shawarma, combination platter #2 (food for four), baba ghanoush and some clay oven bread. The combination platter was no joke...it had salad, rice, chicken kebabs, a ground beef kebab(idk, maybe, didn't specify, but it was great!) chicken shawarma, chicken mogulgul, hummus, pitas, salsa and tahini. Plenty for four and all very good. Seems like a steep price at $39.99, but im glad I paid it. There's a heap of food in it too, so $10 per person for a great, no junk or fast food meal is as cheap as it gets. The beef shawarma entree was great too. The hidden gems for me were the baba ghanoush and the clay oven bread....smoky and savory... eggplant, olive oil and garlic....just a hint of sweetness lingering. I really enjoyed that. I'd never had it, but I will be ordering it again. The bread is worth it too. It's huge. Leave the forks in the drawer and buy the bread. Great...
