Hands down, the best restaurant in Southern Illinois! The atmosphere is excellent! They have beautiful decor, beautiful servers, great music (the best is when you're surprised with live music!), and a great vibe! It's cozy and tight, private and romantic, it's just a wonderful scene! The menu changes often and offers a variety of favorites! I'm always delighted to see what the options are for the evening! The drinks are made fresh and strong...no pre-made mixes here and the wine selection is terrific! My must-haves: Lemon-shake up with Goose! It reminds me of the DuQuoin state fair, but with a kick! I always start with the Artichoke Dip for an appetizer! Sometimes I'll mix it up and get the Head of Garlic, and if you happen to catch the Stuffed Peppers on the menu, they're a can't miss! For my meal, I recommend only the Filet with Boursin cheese...I recommend only that because I can't bring myself to try anything else, the filet is SO good! And to finish this decadent meal, the desserts are divine! They're all fabulous, you can't go wrong, but if I had to pick a favorite, it would be the mouth-watering Peanut Butter Cup...with ganache chocolate and whipped peanut butter that's as light as clouds...it's the best caloric coma ever! I will say this restaurant isn't for everyone...if you're looking for heated frozen food or a chocolate fountain, keep on going to Applebee's or Golden Corral, they'll be happy to help you and I'll be happy to take your...
Read moreThe Global Gourmet is a true delight. From the hospitality and welcoming atmosphere to the detailed attention from the servers to the eclectic menu you are in for a treat. Kaden, our server did a great job of sharing information about the menu and even though he was not at drinking age was able to tell us which Chardonnay was more buttery, was quick to find out if our order had any msg, and able to steer us to a second choice when choice a- chicken empanadas were an option for me. The empanadas we did choose were stuffed with poblano peppers, mushrooms, and a lime crema. They were delicious!! Our entree of veal Marsala was tender and the sauce that came with it was a perfect blend of wine and capers. The tiramisu dessert was lovely and topped off our meal which was split between two of us with both of us feeling we had plenty to eat. We love a lot about the Global Gourmet. We loved the outside area which is small, charming, and protected from the wind. We love the size of the menu which allows for attention to detail of each item. We love how the staff are trained to make you feel like you are the most special customers. We liked feeling well fed when our dinner was done. It’s easy to recommend the...
Read moreWe were traveling and I needed special diet food. We thought this restaurant would fit my needs. When we arrived, we were treated like we were not important enough to be there, maybe because we were traveling and weren't dressed up and we probably appeared tired. The snobby waitress acted like she was doing us a favor when we didn't have a reservation, and put us in an area with tiny tables, too close together . I'm a small person and had difficulty getting up without my behind touching the next table person's shoulder. The menu was only 4 choices. Our food was extremely bland at best. We spent about 100.00 for a small plate of noodles no meat, and a piece of bone in undercooked chicken covered with some sort of sauce to cover up the fact it was dry and undercooked or whatever. I couldn't eat it. And a tiny cup of soda in a fancy glass, and tiny glass of wine. Plus, I didn't appreciate the waitresses wearing their skirts so short, and low cut tops , constantly pulling it down and bending over with our tables very close to us.. We will definitely not be back. Hopefully it was just a bad day, but we had to go eat elsewhere afterwards, because we were unable to eat the food and it was a...
