TLDR;
It's an experience. If you've never been, go ahead. If you don't like raw fish, there's plenty of other options in the menu.
Long review;
It's not the best Japanese restaurant in the world, neither it is the best in USA, nor in Illinois. But, it's the best one you got when you are in Carbondale.
Their rice rolls aren't so bad, in fact, I enjoy their rice rolls. I can definitely tell their fish were frozen at one point though. The texture of the fish is different when it's been frozen at least once. It's not quite noticeable unless you've eaten fresh sashimi at a place where they prepare the food right in front of you, with the fish that you've selected. Gruesome, I know, but I like my fish "literally alive a minute ago" fresh fresh. The only reason why I like their rice roll is because everything other than the fish is great. The rice, the sauce, whatever else they put in it, it's great.
In fact, speaking of sauce, whatever sauce they use for the salad is amazing. I asked and they told me it was a ginger sauce, but when I tried a store-bought ginger suace and it wasn't the same. I wish they had "don-gatsu & salad" on their menu, because it'd be amazing.
As for their hibachi, the food is whatever. It's not anything better than Panda Express. But the experience is worth having, if you are with your family or friends. Word of the wise, don't wear anything you wouldn't want to get dirtied, because there's 99% chance that you won't catch the meat...
Read moreTook my mother to dinner for her birthday. When we arrived in the parking lot there was a large glass bottle broken in the parking lot. I told the hostesses about the broken bottle. Expecting it to be cleaned up when I left it was not. I went back in and told the manager. He did not seem to think it was a big deal that it had not been cleaned up.
I brought a cake in before my mother arrived and gave it to the hostess to be served to my mother after dinner as a surprise. About half way through the dinner I asked the waitress if she new about the cake to make sure the surprise would not be ruined.
She asked everyone at the table if they wanted dessert. I expected her to bring the cake after. She brought the bill and proceeded to clean the table next to ours. She never brought the cake out. The table next to ours was sang happy birthday by the staff. I had to ask for the cake to be brought out after I payed the bill she brought it with the lid on no plates or silverware to eat with. I just left with my mother's special day not being treated with such special service.
When I received my credit card statement in the mail the waitress gave herself the tip she wanted instead of what I wrote on the bill.
I called and spoke with the manager he refunded the money. Again did not seem to think the issue was a big deal.
The food was good, atmosphere good, ruined by the...
Read moreAfter working a long day also in the retail setting I was craving their noodles & yummy sauce. I picked up my husband, called ahead to place the order, it wasn’t ready when we got there so we decided to grab a drink from the bar (spent more money in the restaurant). The male host working brought it out, I assumed it was correct for the prices they charge, so I gave him my card however he did not confirm the order with me when he dropped it off. Sadly, when we got home, the order was incorrect, so I called, instead of giving an apology I was met with a hostile sassy it’s your fault conversation! The male host, in a very unprofessional matter, blamed my husband for not hearing his mistake over the phone while he read back the order (my husband stated the host read it back correctly so). After he was very rude multiple times over he gave me one apology - which was only for “snapping at me, it’s been a very long night.” He thought that was enough but I was very upset at this point and asked for a manager at least 3 times! He hung up on me! I suggested he take my number for a manager to call me the following day but he refused to escalate my incorrect order so it could be made right. I have never had such horrible customer service! “I’m not the owner. I’m a college student and don’t get paid enough for this.” So please give me a manager as I...
