New review based on recent experience:
If I could I would give this place three stars for dine in but one star (and that because zero isn't an option) for takeout. Splitting the difference with my rating.
Prices are too high for what you get.
Some of the food is pretty good IF you like and can tolerate a ton of salt, don't like anything seasoned except the sauces/salsas, hit the place at peak times and eat in.
If you order anything with the chicken make sure it has a sauce or some liquid to rehydrate it, they cook it until it resembles salted cardboard. Their sauces and salsas are (usually) good, if inconsistent. I quite like the chipotle sauce most of the time. Sadly, the only menu items that use it are...chicken.
*Note to people with disabilities or mobility issues: Be warned the floor is slick tile. It can get slippery inside the door, at the register and throughout the dining room in all weather conditions.
Service is efficient but can be very argumentative if any errors or omissions are pointed out. That goes double for management, don't expect them to fix anything. But if they get it right the first time you'll have a fairly good experience eating in. The atmosphere is casual and clean, good for families or groups although it can get really loud. Don't bring a date here!
If you order takeout PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS HOLY open everything and check it before you leave!!!! They are famous for horrible takeout service for a reason.
One more time I grudgingly gave in and my husband ordered takeout. I was supposed to have pollo playa. I got 14...yes, I counted ... small bits of dry salty chicken on a mountain of pale dry rice with big sticky clumps in it. No flavor or seasoning, no chips or salsa, no unseasoned melted white American cheese primarily thinned with oil (their version of "cheese dip"), nothing.
More than thirteen dollars for this! Not including tip, of course. My husband called, texted a photo and was called a LIAR.
Nope. Never again. It's not the first time but it's the last straw. It's basic strip mall Americanized Mexican fare, there's nothing special about it and nothing here you can't get at several other places in and around Carbondale. And it's so, so salty! It's not worth the...
Read moreI had heard good things about the place and as I was wandering on my own I thought I'd try it. When I walked in the atmosphere was nice, it is VERY clean. The only thing that detracted from the atmosphere was the music was on the loud side for a Saturday afternoon. The server came pretty quickly and brought me chips and salsa and asked for my drink order. It took me a minute to decide what to order. I ordered the 3 chimichanga meal. It didn't take to long to come and was very hot. It went downhill from there. The rice was kind of bland and very dry. When I tried cutting into the 1st chimichanga it was difficult to cut, it was the shrimp one which wasn't too bad. The next one I cut into was the chicken one, very dry and definitely NO seasoning. Well onto the 3rd one which was steak, it too was dry and not seasoned. Definitely a disappointment. I expected the meats inside the chimichangas to have been seasoned, but to me they weren't. I also thought the chimichangas to be a little bigger. It's definitely NOT a place that I plan on ever returning to again. Maybe I just came at a...
Read moreThey were pleasant walking in, showed us to our seats, but as soon as our waitress arrived we asked for an items on the menu and she looked at us like we were stupid and tried suggesting other things.
Refused to take my valid 21 id, for some reason "they got fined for it" once, so if you wanna spend your 21st birthday here. Don't.
Enchiladas: 2/10. shitty taste.
Polo Hawaiiano: 1/10. tastes shitty as well
Serlion steak: 3/10. Stringy, chewy, I asked for medium they gave me well done, the Mexican potatoes were crunchy and raw
