IHOP — Restaurant in Carbondale

Service was simply outstanding! Our server Arielle was top notch. When we arrived, she immediately let us know that she was new and just started working there. Although she was the only person working the floor that day, she went above and beyond and really impressed us. She was attentive, thorough, knew the menu offerings inside and out, and made sure all our needs were met in a timely manner with a "genuine" friendly cheerful personality! I was so impressed I asked to meet the Manager before leaving to let him know she was an outstanding server and made our visit 5 stars!

The food came out hot, on time, great portion sizes, presentation was good, and everything was fresh and appetizing. When leaving our server offered to bring us to go containers which were sturdy made of tight sealing plastic. Not the typical cheap Styrofoam clam shell type most establishments use, which crush easily in the vehicle when transporting home. A very nice delighter that keeps food safe and intact for enjoying later.

The establishment was also very clean, tables all set properly, and condiments fully stocked at each table. Indoor lighting was bright and pleasant, not overpowering. The table we originally sat at, eventually had some glare of direct sunlight hitting it from an angle. We never complained but our server noticed and offered to move us to a different table which we truly appreciated. Her attention to detail and consideration was above and beyond anything we expected.

The bathrooms were above what one typically finds. The floors, sinks, mirrors, and toilets were exceptionally clean, toilet paper fully stocked, no loose trash around, and hand soap dispensers full. A pure delight when traveling with small children. One nice touch you do not often find were chairs for waiting in the vestibule outside the bathroom doors. It was a thoughtful addition for times when bathrooms may be busy and people have a short wait before entering! Definitely proactive thinking that makes a difference!

The kids eat for free after 4:00 pm promotion was a great value for families. The kid's menu had a variety of options that were appealing. My son was extremely happy with his meal and he can be a tough critic, so his satisfaction with dining there said it all. He gave 5 stars.

My experience at IHOP this morning 6/17/18 was horrible. I arrived to inform the lady who was of Indian background and appeared to be in her fifties that I had a party of 6 with a high chair. She proceeded to say ok, then stated I did not need to give my name. Which I found odd being as though I was told I had to wait. After 3 other families had entered into the facility they were a party of 5 with a high chair and a party of 6, etc. All 3 were white families and were treated different than I was. The attendant wrote down the name and size of each family then promptly seated them after little to no wait time. I stood up and said WAIT what’s going on, why didn’t you take my name and seat my family??? Is it because we are so called “black”. The ihop server then said “mam you have to wait until more servers arrive”. I said “wait” I’ve already been waiting for 30 minutes! Long story short the ihop attendant who worked the shift on 6/17/18 at 8:10 a.m, refused to seat my “ black” family but was eager to seat 3 “white” families who had large families with little to no waiting time who had arrived 30 minutes after my family did. Waited 15 minutes for the waitress to bring our drinks (ice water and milk). Waited 45 minutes for our food and there was literally only 4 other people in the whole restaurant. I ordered strawberry banana pancakes and when I got my order there were no bananas. I understand if you guys were out of them, but nothing was said to me if that was the case and I didn't have time to wait for them to be remade. I wasn't brought my bill so I went up to the register while my waitress was standing there.. she looked right at me and walked into the kitchen. She came back out a few minutes later and told me my total, which didn't sound right, so I asked for a copy of my receipt. She looked at the receipt as if she was going to just give me the one she had printed out, but hesitated.. she walked into the back and I looked at the receipt she printed.. it wasn't my order She came back out and I told her I looked at the receipt and that was not my order so she walked back in the kitchen brought me my change back, apologized, but didn't seem sincere....
