Absolutely worst experience at a restaurant that we have ever had...the food was terrible..it took for ever and my wife didnt get her food until everyone else was finished...the waitress was by far the worst part of the whole easter sunday nightmare she didnt write down the order thus getting it wrong and makeing there cook (who wouldnt know a pancake if it hit him upside his head) remake my wife's omlet (which was dry and overcooked) she was rude, she disapeared throughout only coming out at the end to give us the bill...we had heard it was a pretty good place...wrong...you could sense they really didnt care only to get us out...we didnt say much of anything (i was proud of myself for zipping my lip but only venting our frustration thru a 1 dollar tip which my wife said was to much for that waitress...lol...do yourself a favor and pass this place up.. i know we will!...p.s. the carmel coffee was cold and terrible! this is the first review we have ever submiited to any establishment...we travel frequently eat at alot of restaraunts...this place is...

This is always a very good restaurant. Food is awesome. Service is great. They greet you on entry and usually on exit.

Parking is difficult at best. A small pay to park area to the south and east near the rail road tracks is available. Also a small free parking area at the rear of the building near the tracks.

Stopped in for lunch today. It was approximately half full. Both sides were open for dining. The order was taken quickly. For the amount of customers it seemed to take longer than usual time to receive the order.

They have more than just breakfast. Everyone talks about breakfast. The breakfast is good, try something else people.

The Chicken Cordon Blu was very tasty with lettuce and thick sliced tomato and onion. Home potatoes and sliced pineapple and cantaloupe added for desert.

I...

The food here has been consistently good for more than 6 years. Great food at great prices.

However, sanitation is an issue.

Today, I saw the owner walk into the side kitchen to sneeze while carrying four cups, two mugs, silverware, and menus. He did not cover his mouth while sneezing. He then put everything he was carrying onto a table for customers. Customers were seated at the table a few minutes later.

A server then prepared fresh lettuce on the countertop in the kitchen, where he sneezed without wiping it down first.

I saw a server eating potatoes off a plate with her fingers. She then continued serving.

I saw multiple servers grab toast for meals after handling money and dirty dishes without washing their hands prior.

I get that it's a busy restaurant, but there's no excuse to be made for...

Whoah… this place was amazing, no seriously. I went there last weekend, 8/23/25. I went to school here at SIU-C from 2005-2007 and never went there to eat while in college. I tell you what …I highly regret it. This was hands down the best breakfast I have ever had. My waitress was awesome, I believe her name was Lisa. She had a great attitude, very nice, and resourceful, she answered all my questions and recommends a meal for me after describing what I wanted to eat. I ordered oatmeal that came with brown sugar and raisins, cooked perfectly… not too runny… not too dry. The eggs were fresh, pancakes were really fluffy, and the breakfast ham was cooked perfectly.. so rich in flavor. This is a must try if you are in the Carbondale, IL area. I will most def be back!! ☀️👏🫡

Anytime I’m in Carbondale this is the place for breakfast. The food is good and filling. I love the atmosphere and how each table has different unique coffee mugs! I will say it is fairly busy if you go during rush hour periods but I will say the staff handles it pretty well. The last time I was in town a family of 5 entered and tried to be seated before two family’s of 5 that had been waiting well before them; the staff member handled this situation very professionally even though the (confused) customer left. He kept the waiting “line” honest and did his best to explain the situation during the morning rush and I respect that!
