Hi-very new at posting about things but this experience today @ Fay’s is really needing me to do so,as much for someone new going to eat there, as for myself. Ok , hard hard night shift @ work. Hungry for an omelette. They open @ 6:00 am and usually have a good amount of people. I go in , it’s calm , cold inside but it’s ok I’d remembered it got that way from when I’d been there before. Waitress says sit yourself. Fine. Than she says where I’m sitting there may be a few large parties come in. Suggests another spot ,ok fine again. Want to watch the news anyway so I move toward their register area. By than a man comes in , I’m assuming a Boss or Manager. Says something I don’t think the waitress took right . Here it goes. Now she’s agitated. Again, s—-ty boss whatever. Not a problem yet. She brings me my omelette, toast and home fries.Just from immediate viewing you can tell it’s waaay overcooked- very brown . Again, I don’t make too big a deal over things ,set my mind it’s still probably good inside. Upon eating some I’m realizing it has the burnt taste as well. The waitress comes and asks the cover question how is everything. I put out right than it’s burnt. She says ‘uh you want it remade’ . I ask her out of concern( I had seen an elderly gentleman behind the counter and thought he may have made it and didn’t want to offend him)if he was the cook and she said no. I tell her I’ll make it work ( with every intent too). But by the next bite as she walked away now I was getting pulverized egg dust ( I mean - like they microwaved the guts outta this thing and the cheese was melted hard together. Only than did I politely and discreetly call the young waitress back and ask if she could please remake it .) Didn’t blame anything on anyone-showed her clearly how it looked . This is when I lost it-she is standing there , eyeballing everything like I had 2 heads. Finally , she picks it up and says’’ well, you’ve eaten most of it I don’t think they’ll make you another you’ve already ate it’’ LOUDLY as she grabs my plate. I rationally explain that no, I took maybe 4 bites but that the eggs in the inside are literally powderized from over -cooking and I did not eat hardly any. Again, LOUDLY she announces ( and at this point the place is full) that since I ate ‘most of it already’ she’d see what she could do but that I shouldn’t expect to receive it.I was only asking she remake the omelette.I hadn’t touched the rest of the meal at that point.-1 -you do not talk to a fairly new ( or Any customer) like this. 2 -I hadn’t made any issue when the nasty thing was brought out as I still gave it the benefit of the doubt that someone could have just been hurried in the kitchen. But upon cutting it open saw how inedible it actually was.She shamed and insulted me . (When they should be ashamed serving such a burnt offering.) I love omelets.I know an omelet done right. It’s not rocket science and to burn it that badly means it just had been neglected.However-to make such a dramatized scene ( really - you make money by receiving a customer’s tips- why would you personally treat anyone like this?) was unacceptable.I got up , went to pay- wait for it- was polite STILL and was going to leave a tip. She goes at me ‘’ ya want it to go’ I say no thank you and she goes’ well than you’re just wasting good food’.?????? Uh….. I look at her STILL calm and say ‘’Apparently ‘’ and walk out. I say ‘ no bit of cooth ’ to myself and leave . She starts bad mouthing the second I get to the door to my back. Really ??? Appalling . I gladly would have not only gone back- but would have brought other good -tipping customers from where I work in the Warehouse. Instead, I will never go there again. Sunnyside Diner is where I ended up and got an actual properly done omelette, and a lovely waitress who YES was tipped well. Wish I’d have had the sense to take a pic.I shared what I had just experienced and she told me many people come there after bad experiences @ Fays.Save your $. If you want a pleasant experience and food that’s edible go...
Read moreEverything was fine until the food came out. I ordered a western skillet which is supposed to have 2 eggs, ham, peppers, onion, cheese and potatoes all mixed together. My daughter ordered French toast. As another reviewer posted, the skillet was mostly potatoes and cheese. It was clear the eggs were cooking separately and tossed together with the rest of the barely there ingredients. No seasoning what's so ever.
I ate it because I was hungry and technically it was as described. The French toast was not French toast. As soon as it was placed on the table we asked what it was. The server said French toast. What they brought us was toast that had been dipped in pancake batter and pan fried like a pancake. When I pointed out that that is not French toast but something entirely different she told me that people like it.
That may be true but we ordered French toast. Not pancake dipped toast. My daughter tried 1 bite and didn't like it. Probably because it wasn't what she ordered.
As others have posted the staffs attitudes need adjustments. I noticed that we were sitting next to an ATM that everyone seemed to be using so I asked if it was cash only. The responses was "didn't you read the sign?" No I didn't. I simply walked in and ordered. Didn't check all stuff posted out front. Another server remarked "nobody pays any attention anymore."
When we went to pay I noticed a charge for 25 cents with no description. I asked what it was for. They said the rye toast. Who upcharges for rye over other types of bread. The toast was so burnt I only had 1 bite anyways.
I can overlook over cooked food, or bad servers, or weird charges, or the inconvenience of paying an ATM surcharge but when you add them all together it's too much. All these things are fixable but until I hear that they have been I...
Read moreStopped on a Tuesday around 10AM. Would not choose to stop again. Ham looked nice but tasted a bit sour like it was getting ready to turn. Used mustard to mask the flavor. Home fries good, except I was given onions on them after I had declined the offer to add onions. Waitress checked her order pad while she stood there to make sure about no onions (uncomfortable). Rye toast cut thinner than regular and costs 25c upcharge. Jelly bin was completely full of grape only. The toast was barely browned, and was soaked with bright yellow butter-flavored griddle oil, even though I asked for peanut butter instead. Then I was charged 50c for a tiny plastic cup of PB.
Why charge your customers for something different, especially when the competition doesn’t? Upcharges are customer repellent, especially when the patron makes a choice because you are out of something they would have liked. I didn’t charge for my personal time while I sat there waiting to have my potatoes corrected, as my wife ate her breakfast without me.
Pancakes had a gummy consistency, not fluffy as buttermilk should be. Scrambled eggs were brownish and flat, maybe the eggs were mixed a while ago. Bacon was dense and pressed perfectly flat except one corner folded over hard, like reheated from previously cooked and at the bottom of the stack of cooked meat. Orange juice OK. Coffee good. Restaurant was clean. Portions good. Wait staff good and stay out front. We received a bill without the total added up.
So the food is not freshly cooked, except the sunny eggs. Service fine, but we were only one of about four tables. If there is not much business, why not cook fresh? This is why we stopped, and will not bother again. Eating out should be special for guests instead of being convenient...
