If you're looking for a fresher take on pastries, cakes, coffee, and more, it's worth trying Paris Baguette one, two, or five times. What I enjoy most about their fare is that it's generally lighter, fluffier, and less sweet than typical American bakeries---but with superior quality across the board.
Whether it's a raspberry almond croissant, the egg salad sandwich wrapped in two thick loaves of fluffy white bread, or a slice of blueberry cake, you really cannot go wrong. I'm here about once a week, and I've tried nearly everything and enjoy it all.
If you need a cake for a birthday, work event, anniversary, etc., this is my first choice. They also have some delicious and creative offerings around major holidays that are for a limited time only. Sadly, I missed the Halloween Cake I was eyeballing, but plan on snagging one this year in October. Oh, and they offer cards and candles which is a convenience I can appreciate.
The sandwiches are excellent, but if they have cheese, ask them to heat them for the best flavor. Because of the respectable array of sandwich offerings, consider stopping in for lunch or a quick dinner to go.
One thing you might miss is the roll-cakes in the cooler on the right side of the store. They're an extremely light and airy cake, not too sweet, and often fruit-themed. They're probably my new favorite sweet treat and perfect after a heavy meal, paired with a cup of decaf coffee or a loose-leaf green or jasmine tea. Also, great as a gift.
Coffee is always fresh, hot, and not too strong (like Starbucks), and not too weird (like many of the hipster places near the beach).
Decor is reasonably comfortable and cozy, all while the establishment is impeccably clean. It does get quite busy, but don't let that deter you---the line moves fast.
Other reviewers will compare Paris Baguette to 85C, but to me, it's not even close: Paris Baguette all the way. A lot of what 85C offers is greasy, and I just can't do greasy. Paris Baguette tastes like real food, made with love, where 85C trends more towards fast food (at least in my not-so-humble opinion).
Glad you all came to town! ...
Read moreThis place checked all my boxes, clean, bright & beautifully decorated, inside. When you walk in the front door, it's as if you've won the Baked Good & Pastry Olympics! Case after case of fresh & colorful individual baked items can be yours, should you decide to play along, & buy what your heart pleads most strongly for.
You're supposed to grab a large white plastic tray, near the entrance, or a to-go box, plus a pair of clean tongs, & help yourself. After you've loaded your to-go box, or tray, proceed to Checkout, at the far left front corner, of Paris Baguette, which my wife & I loved, BTW.
Inside one of the clear glass cases, up front, to the far right, they have a whole case, dedicated to freshly-made sandwiches.
The person ringing up sales was super friendly! She brought me my freshly brewed Americano, as soon as the Baristsa had finished brewing it.
I loved this pleasantly delicious & decadently dangerous place, plus the coffee here, was hot & super rich at Paris Baguette!
I'd definitely recommend Paris Baguette, to anyone who craves wonderful baked goods, which are made so beautifully, they resemble individual...
Read more(June 2024) After an unfortunate experience with the twisted donut, I decided to give it a try again, and this time the donut tasted as it's supposed to be. I was really pleased since I've been enjoying Paris Baguette for years ( different locations), and will do for many more years.
( Jan 24)I had to edit my comment since I went today craving a mochi donut and a twisted donut. The mochi donut was perfect but the twisted one was really bad. It had a stale texture and flavor. I couldn't believe it was baked in this place. I hope this was a mistake for the day, but now I'm hesitant in going back.
Previous comment ( May 2023) Delicious bakery. We tried the twisted donut and it was crispy and chewy: 100 points. Paris Baguette was our favorite place at our previous home and we are celebrating that we can enjoy it again here at Carlsbad. I have to mention that they pay attention to keep the place sparkling clean. Every single table was wiped after each use. I strongly...
