Tomoyama sushi — Restaurant in Carlsbad

Tomoyama Sushi offers a solid dining experience with fresh ingredients and a welcoming atmosphere. I stopped in for dinner and tried the Rainbow Sashimi, the Hawaiian Roll, and a draft IPA.

The Rainbow Sashimi was visually appealing but didn’t quite meet expectations. The fish itself seemed fresh, but it was much saucier than the menu picture suggested. The sauce overpowered the delicate, natural flavors of the fish, making it difficult to appreciate the freshness. Additionally, the sashimi was served on thin apple slices, which was an interesting presentation choice but made the pieces a bit hard to pick up. While the apple added a slight sweetness, it didn’t contribute much to the dish overall. It would have been better if they offered the sauce on the side and served the sashimi on a more stable base or directly on the plate.

The Hawaiian Roll, on the other hand, was fantastic. It had a fresh, clean taste, with well-balanced flavors and no unnecessary sauce. The sushi rice was well-seasoned, with the right texture—not too firm or too soft. This roll was definitely a highlight of the meal.

To go with the sushi, I ordered a draft IPA, which was fresh and crisp. It paired nicely with the meal, cutting through the richness of the fish and cleansing the palate between bites. The restaurant had a good selection of drinks, making it a nice spot for those who enjoy pairing sushi with...

Stopped in to pick up a small roll as a snack and it was great! The staff was attentive and helpful when I asked questions. The menu had a great variety of dishes to choose from. There are a lot of to-go orders coming out of this restaurant as well as dine in patrons. There is alcohol on the menu, wine, beer, and Sake. Happy hour has a lot of great deals, too.

This is a great place to stop for a full meal or just a quick bite. Outdoor seating is available. Some of it is right in front of the restaurant, and other seating is nearby and publicly available.

Inside the restaurant, it had a great decore and tons of sesting that could accommodate plenty of different size parties, including large families. It was my first time eating here. My experience was going well, until I got my food. The server was very friendly and courteous. I placed my oder and shortly received it after. Everything was fine until I got about 95% done with my food and noticed that my meal wasn't properly cooked. The fish that was supposed to be on my plate, looked as though it had been placed in a microwave to defrost ( you know the ends of it cooked while the rest still raw). I then told the server and his response was in between " well what do you want to me to do/ and well you've eaten most of it" without saying a word. He gave me a discount but that was not the point. The poi t is i trust you with my stomach and this is what you gave. I payed what I needed to, but that will be my last trip there. I don't feel the need to be that adventurous with my GI tract.
