I have been to Osaka a few times and each experience has ranged from mediocre to unpleasant.
Until now.
Last night was appalling. With the exception of the entertaining hibachi chef and good fried rice (which he obviously prepared), this place is a trainwreck. From the lack of atmosphere, to the service staff that doesn't want to be there, to the tasteless and arguably spoiled sushi rolls, I'm honestly surprised this place still exists. However, by far the worst part of the evening was the customer service, which was reminiscent of Dave Chapelle's painfully funny bad customer service skit.
Our server, who looked stressed and scared the entire night, told us during our dinner that she had been singled out by the manager as a "stupid American girl" four times during her shift before she had even taken our table. We had asked to sit in the Hibachi area because the couple we were dining with were interested in getting food other than sushi - they ended up changing their minds but I ordered fried rice to warrant us being there (in the past they have tacked on $2 service fees onto everyone's tabs for sitting in the Hibachi area - they did not this time). My friend's fiancé ordered the Bubba Roll without mayo because she is allergic - they brought her the roll with mayo. After sending it back, the manager told his server to simply "scrape it off." They eventually complied and remade the order.
I ordered the Carrollton Roll and Spider Roll. My rolls were inedible - they didn't taste good or even fresh. I ended up bringing this to the attention of the manager who after shirking off my complaint told me that "maybe I had eaten too much." I didn't even eat half of my order. He said that it was fresh and that he eats it every day. He then proceeded to quiz me on what I had ordered because he obviously did not believe I knew what a Spider Roll was.. No apologies, no credit, nothing. Our server was obviously frazzled because she was the only server in the restaurant, and she later disappeared. When we went to pay, we asked the manager where she had gone, and he said that she was sick and left. Yes, she was sick of being ridiculed by you.
Attention Carrollton - this establishment is not only customer-unfriendly, it's racist. Do not go here. Do yourself a favor and support an establishment that not only makes good sushi but is nice to its patrons. If you are wanting good, authentic Japanese food, go to Tokyo or even Honk Kong but don't waste your money here. I...
Read moreWe went here for my daughter’s birthday this afternoon, where we usually go every year on her birthday for the past 3 years, but quickly left after 10 minutes of sitting down. First off, we have always gotten a side of chicken and large fry for my husband (he doesn’t eat rice or veggies). The older man who took our order (he’s always there so I think he’s part of management) told me we can’t do that because he has to buy an entree, even though we’ve done this for the past 3 years. I said okay, can we get the entree and substitute rice for fries. He proceeded to say, “no, you must buy entree, no chicken by self, can you read?!” I looked at my daughter, who looked very uneasy, and asked her if she wanted to leave. She said yes because he’s being mean. So I kindly told him that we are just going to leave. He said we had to pay for our drinks before leaving (drinks that we never even took a single sip out of) so I was nice enough to just say “okay” and followed him to the register. While he was ringing up the drinks, I told him I wasn’t trying to be ugly but I felt like he being was very rude and unprofessional in front of my child. He then said “I was not rude, you can’t read, I asked if you could read the menu”. Again, rude. Before I could continue, he kept cutting me off, raising his voice, so I just said I was - now - not paying for drinks that we never even touched, and walked towards the door. In front of other customers and my child, he followed me and began cussing, calling me names, while yelling loudly. I rushed out to get my daughter out of the situation as fast as I can.
In the 3 years we’ve gone to this restaurant, I’ve never had a single issue out of them, until today. I don’t know if he was having a bad day or what, but it definitely left us uneasy and not ever wanting to step foot in that environment again.
Do what you will with this review, but I’d tread lightly when asking for...
Read moreThe service was absolutely terrible and it was our first time eating here. My family waited about 20 minutes for a table, even though there was tables available, on top of that I had to ask if we were able to sit down, because they kept walking past us I guess forgetting that we were standing in the lobby. Once we were settled, we waited an additional 30 minutes in order to eat, however a chef was done at the table near by us and didn’t come to our table so we ended up waiting an additional 15 minutes for the other chef to finish with the other customers. The other chef that was working another table came to us after he was done. He didn’t give us a show, and he just cooked our food in silence. He had cut the chicken to early and it was still raw, I waited to see if he would cook it through, I had to ask him to cook the chicken longer before he put the teriyaki sauce. My grandmother ordered shrimp and he tried to give it to my husband who has a shrimp allergy. This place also force you to tip whether the service was good or not. I do not recommend eating here. I did not feel welcomed. It felt as though they tended to other customers better than they did my family. It was literally 4 of us, myself, my son, my husband and my...
