Uncle Jerry's is well worth the drive to Cary, IL.! I'm a high quality pizza junkie, so I'm glad it's a 30 minute drive, or I would be 50 pounds heavier! The "Sweet Sting" (homemade habanero infused with honey) alone makes it worth the drive!

I want to alert the out of towner's to a dangerous road situation if you've never been to Main St. in Cary. I almost got hit a few times after getting stuck in the wrong place!!

WARNING! If you are driving north on Northwest Hwy RT 14, there is no warning that you need to pull into a left turn lane until you arrive. Cars need pull over to your left, to go straight into Main St. This intersection is a curve, so if you make a mistake cars heading south are coming right at you! It's the most dangerous situation I have ever seen! Your navigation device is worthless, so if you miss it, just head north and turn around! How about a sign with a light a quarter of mile south??

Uncle Jerry's has not installed a sign, just a small sticker in the window of the longtime butcher shop he shares the space with. Therefore, it is located on SEC of Main St. & High Rd.

After reading the Chicago's Tribune's critic's raving review, I had to hit the road!

2nd visit: I ordered ahead of time and was told it would be a 25 minute wait. This time I ordered a mushroom & garlic with half goat cheese & half sausage with a side of the "Sweet Sting". You can get the Sweet Sting on the pizza, but I like to control the level of heat and sweetness.

I arrived around 1:00 on a Saturday, the bar and tables were busy, so I asked if I could eat it outside. Unfortunately, the raised bizarre wood design was so uncomfortable I was forced to take it to go. So I put in an insulated case and drove 30 minutes...

The pizza was loaded with large Portabella mushrooms slices and had a generous portion of goat cheese! It was so good, I held off on the Sweet Sting till the end. Too good to believe folks!

1st visit: I ordered ahead of time and was told it would be a 45 minute wait. I arrived mid-afternoon on a Saturday, so the large bar had plenty of room, so I asked if I could eat it there. I sat down and ordered the tasty Alaskan Amber that arrived in can.

The 9 inch garlic, mushroom & homemade sausage pan pizza arrived moments later, and it looked great! Long slices of Portabella mushrooms topped the gorgeous pie, I dug in to find no overpowering garlic or sausage. However, the taste was a perfect balance of flavors! I'm use to the overkill of Lou's etc. The pie was very light with the best tomato sauce and crust I have ever tasted! Turns out the dough is fermented for better flavor. The cheese goes all the to the top, so the crust is delicious! I could not believe I was eating the whole thing and did not feel stuffed?

Jerry walked up and we chatted about the pie and he shared photos of how much sausage was on the pie under mushrooms and agreed to add more garlic moving forward. He also shared his amazing "Sweet Sting" secret sauce that had just the right amount of heat to it. I poured it over my last slice and was very impressed! I brought the rest home so I could try it on other dishes. He even shared images of his long list of pizza creations that he has yet to share in his new spot. This pizza is his life's work and Jerry is a master of his craft.

If you want the awesome flavors of a light gourmet pan pizza without all the calories and that overstuffed feeling, this is place! I'll be back! The bill came...

I finally made my way over to Uncle Jerry's Pizza Company and here's my review. I've heard of Uncle Jerry's Pizza Company when they first opened and it's always been on my "to try" list but I just never got around to trying them. I don't know why, but was it because we've already picked out our favorite deep dish style pizza with Georgio's and Lou's? However, it's always been on the back of my mind. Then when Barstool's review came out it prompted me again to give this place a try. LOL, boy that was a mistake. After that, the wait times were up to 2 hours and 30 mins just to get your pie! Ugh, should've tried it when I had the chance.

So I called yesterday at 4:00pm right when they opened and placed an order for two pies. One 14" with sausage, mushrooms, onions, and green peppers, and a 9" Sweet Sting. I placed the order and they said 30 to 40 mins. SWEET! So I made my way over to the restaurant for pick up.

ProTip: I tried searching everywhere to see approximately how much a 9" would feed and as well as the 14". After ordering it I can confirm that for the 9" this will comfortably feed two grown adults and for the 14" this will comfortably feed four grown adults.

I get the restaurant and I was taken back by the meat market but then I remembered the Barstool video and they split the place with a meat market. I walk up and tell them I'm here to pick up and they asked if I wanted it cut. I know why, because if you leave it uncut and cut it yourself at home the edges are more crispier. I told them to go ahead and cut it and I went over to the slot machines to try to win some money for some free pizza but that was not the case today. Slots 1, Jim 0. I digress. Hopefully the pizza taste better than my slot play. I get the pizza and head home.

I advise my mother-in-law that this pizza joint received rave reviews and she's the BIGGEST food critic. So our review of the pizza are exactly the same, so what did we think?

It's a great pie. The ingredient match well with each other and are fresh. The pizza sauce it self was very neutral and this is NOT a bad thing. It was not too sweet, not too salty, not too tangy with spices, just neutral and you just taste the fresh tomatoes which is excellent. The cheese it melty and gooey and down right addictively delicious. The crust is on a different level to that of Georgio's and Lou's. It's crunchy, exquisite, and quite frankly, it hooks you in. You CANNOT stop eating it and just go back for more and more. My wife had reservations about getting the Sweet Sting Pie as she was leary of the homemade habanero honey as she didn't want it to be too spicy but this was not the case whatsoever. It's the right amount of heat that keeps you going back for more. Our quasi-supreme pizza was delectable as well and dare I say 'Mother-in-Law approved' :)

Georgio's and Lou's have always been a staple in our house hold for good ole Chicago Deep Dish style pizza but now I have to really rethink our pizza options. I hold those restaurants in the highest regard but now Uncle Jerry has a seat at our table and he knows how to make a damn good pie.

With that said, I'm thankful Uncle Jerry's Pizza Company is in the neighborhood and they are so good that it's worth telling your friends and family to try out and travel for some damn good pizza. Congratulations you've earned my 5 star Google review. Keep up...

We heard the buzz about this place, and finally got a chance to check it out. The pizza really is special (5 stars!), but I'll get to that in a minute. First of all, the location is just different. The Pizzeria shares a large open room space with a high-end butcher shop (Orchard Prime Meats and Wine Shoppe) and one wall of freezer doors of specialties from the butcher. There is a semicircle bar with about 12-15 seats and the requisite gambling area with a half dozen slot machines. High tops and regular tables are dotted throughout the rest of the space to seat maybe 40-50 patrons. The last feature is a deli up front that says ‘coming soon,’ but apparently that has been like that since opening. In general, the atmosphere is nothing special other than the unusual aspect of the butcher shop, but the smell of the pizza ovens definitely sets the mood.

Now for the pizza. I have to admit that I was going in with some skepticism. The place only has two sizes of pizza, 9” and 14”, several quality toppings, and a garden salad appetizer. That’s it, and that is enough. The pizza looks like a deep dish from afar, but in reality, it is a thin crust that masquerades as a deep dish due to the amazing caramelized crust edges that extends about two inches above and all around the edge. We were there on a busy Friday evening at 5:10 pm, and the pizza took an hour, after 45 minutes waiting for a table, but it was so worth the wait. Also, this place does a very healthy take-away business, in that the entire time that we were there, people were coming and going.

The pizza arrived at our table and was baked to perfection, with well-portioned fresh ingredients. Ours was half pepperoni/black olives and half sausage and portabella mushroom. We got a 14”, because we wanted to have leftovers. When it arrives at your table, it will have you struggling to decide if the first bite is pie or crust. Delicious. Again, the pizza is five stars. The location is downtown Cary is great as well. The ambiance is probably 4 stars due to gambling machines front and center, and the overall value would also be 4 stars, mainly due to the bar being a bit pricy with canned/bottled beers at $8 and wine at $12.50 glass for an adequate pour of good cabernet. If you are there for 2.5 hours like we were, three rounds of beverages ($60-$70) was much more of the bill than our pizza ($30). With tips, we were just at $120, which is pricey for pizza and drinks, but the pizza is so good that you will likely find a way to justify the investment.

Overall, I wish Google allowed half-stars, because this review would be 4.5 for certain, but I'll give it overall 5 stars, because 4 stars is too low for something this unique. Nonetheless, we are excited to have tried this, and we’ll be back. We’ll just try not to time the rush hour crowds for dinner, and maybe hit it more...
