I had a lot of great Mexican food at Tito's. But my all time favorite was the BLT Tito use to make for me when I was a kid, probably about seven years old, which would have been 1958 or so. The Bayfair Mall was just being built. My folks had the bar and grill next door, the Bayfair Club, between Tito's and Jimmy's Market on the corner of 155th. Jimmy was a Japanese immigrant who grew a lot of his own produce on his large truck garden over on Hesperian Blvd. The lunch counter at the Bayfair Club couldn't compare to Tito's cooking. As good as the Mexican food was, he made the best BLT I ever had. Lightly toasted bread, fresh, crisp lettuce and thick slices of fresh tomato from Jimmy's garden, and stacked with perfectly cooked bacon. He served it on one of those large, oval plates kept warm in the oven. Just one booth by the front window and a few stools at the small, dog-leg counter. We entered and there was only one other family there which should have been a red flag for us. We sat down and were greeted quickly and kindly. We ordered the carne asada burrito, pollo a la crema and beans for the baby.
The food was bland even after adding salsa to it. My husband said his rice tasted like instant rice.

Lastly,, for our margarita and michelada, the server didn’t even ask us what type of alcohol we wanted...
Read moreComing from Texas there are two things I hold in high regard. Great BBQ and TexMex. I my opinion some of the best Mexican food is had in Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. California is hit or miss. So I know good, great and bad Mexican food. I cannot agree with the negative ratings. This was my first meal here, and it was excellent. Friendly and attentive staff, great food and reasonably priced. I had the Santa Fe plate. A mix of chili relleno, taquito and flautas. With rice and whole beans. Everything was excellent although the rice was a bit overcooked, I won't bash them for one bad batch. My waitress was very friendly and extremely attentive. Be aware, parking here is a challenge bit do not...
