Umami Global Bistro — Restaurant in Catonsville

I had to order food from another place after receiving my food from here. It takes a lot for me to do this but I must. I'm a food service professional just FYI and dont make lite of a bad review. (See my others) My expierence was similar to other recent reviewers.Terrable.

What I recieved was unacceptable by any standards.

It came with a group order that was not redy when we arrived and wewaited an extra 30 mins for an online order that we waited 30 mins to pick up(thinking we would get quality if we waited), As others were comming in and out getting orders.(same on our previous 2 trips )

My falafel platter consisted of 5 gumball sized filafals on top of 4 oz of basmati (i didnt order it and am diabetic so i didnt eat it. 4 oz is one buffet line size spoon full which was by far the bulk of what was there , 2 oz condi cup of tahini, two triangles of Naan and 1 1/2 grape leaves. All of which had to be ordered sepertly.

What I recieved wasn't even an adequate appetizer and again was less that what is pictured on this thread and 100% different from the pics on the site as far as proportion.

I had to order wings from a local spot. so much for veggie nite.(same on my previous 2 trips)

This is extreme cost cutting to the bone. I was charges allmost $15 for what amounts to a side of food. No where close to a platter that was a main as advertised.

This Filafal that comes from a prepackaged mix is so cheap to make its allmost insulting to pass that off. Its 2024 yall. If this is where your cutting costs your in deep doodoo. 4 miles way you can get a banging falafel for $7.50 fesh veggies etc nothing like that here not even close.

100% I feel ripped off after receiving my food. The other members didn't fair much better and will post themselves. Your brand new web site looks great though with pics of platters no one recieves and pics of chef everywhere. Put more into the food and less into the show. NOT WORTH IT!!! Here's something I have never said Ever....I want my $15 bucks back!!!or yall owe...

Went to this place one weekend evening and was expecting rush inside but it was quite slow to my surprise. The parking might be a little issue if you are unfamiliar with the area. There are parking spaces in the market place if you are willing to walk a few steps to this spot. Anyhow, when i went inside, it was quite empty and the girl at the counter seemed quite lost and tired. The owner of the place had to come out and tell her what needs to be done a few times. He also had to go and check in the back to find out whats going on with my order because it was taking to long. All I ordered was chicken kabob platter and it took them almost 30 mins and it usually doesnt take that long, plus the place was empty that evening. I specifically asked the chicken to be a little spicy if possible but it was still bland. I personally did not enjoy the food much. On my way out when I was handed out my meal package, I never recieved a thank you or a good night from the girl at the counter but the owner had to come out and do that himself. I would’ve give a little better rating regardless but the food was not up to...

I've only visited Umami once, so I cannot say as much about the restaurant like I could the others. Frankly, it isn't always about food... actually that's not true... but in this case, it isn't. When I first walked in, the atmosphere was warm and calming. I felt like I was in a meditative state which I was there. Though the restaurant does not specialize in vegan foods, they have vegan and vegetarian-friendly options. It was here that I tried a falafel for the first time. Now generally, I try to avoid them because they looked like chewed up vomit. However, the smell in there was delightful and was starving. Once I got home and ate... no, I mean devoured that falafel wrap I was completely satisfied. I'm a big girl... I eat a lot... so when I finished the wrap and I was full, I was really loving all of the calories I had saved from not binge eating lol. With that being said, I unfortunately only have one top pick and that's their vegan falafel wrap. But that doesn't change the fact that it was a beautiful place, with beautiful customer service and...
