Agave Azul Cocina Mexicana — Restaurant in Cayce

I visited this restaurant with a group of coworkers during our lunch break, and unfortunately, the experience was far from great. The restaurant was clean, there’s not much inside. The place wasn’t busy—our group of 11 made up the majority of the customers—but they only had one server for the entire dining area, and possibly the bar as well. While she was clearly doing her best, the staffing situation was ridiculous and led to slow service.

We arrived between 12:00-12:05 PM and didn’t get to place our food orders until 12:30 PM. Our food took about 25 minutes to come out, which isn’t horrible, but for a lunch rush with everyday menu items like tacos, burritos, and sopes, it felt slow. Because of the timing literally no one ate in the restaurant and we all had to get our food to go.

Again, giving some grace as we were working with a strict hour but still wasn’t the best experience.

As for the food itself: •Chips & Salsa: The chips were good, but the salsa was just okay. •Guacamole ($10): Multiple coworkers said it was bland. •Queso ($8): Just okay—nothing special. •Mango Margarita: It tasted like straight mango purée. I’m not sure there was any alcohol in it at all. Also, the purée was thick, which is not what I expected in a margarita. Had I known, I wouldn’t have ordered it.

The biggest issue? I NEVER RECEIVED MY FOOD. Out of our group of 11, I was the only one who never got my order. Since we were on our lunch break and out of time, I didn’t even have the chance to reorder—I just left lunchless. To make it worse, of the 10 people who did get their food, 8 of them didn’t like it and several ended up throwing their meals away.

I had been here several times in the past and was satisfied with the food even though it was average at best. They were serving an all you can eat buffet and the choices were limited but still satisfying. I was saddened to see them close.

On Friday July 11th I was going to eat at a competitors restaurant a few miles away when I noticed they were open again. I went in and sat down and was greeted immediately and given a menu. As I looked at the menu I started noticing not many of the items had pricing information. That didn't concern me as I had my mind set on Fajitas when I entered. I placed my order explicitly asking the sour cream be deleted from the salad. I was not happy when my meal was delivered with a huge dollop of sour cream firmly placed in the middle of the salad. The waitress informed me that she had placed the order exactly as I requested and offered to take it back. I politely accepted the meal as presented. I do not send food back to a Chef for threat of foreign materials added to my meal. If the server knew the order was not correct it should have never left the kitchen and the Chef's beef would be with the server and not the customer. I was unimpressed with the food as it was rather bland but I was really surprised when she presented the check at the end of the meal exceeding $30, no I didn't have any alcholic beverages just a glass of tea. One of the best places I've ever gone. The restaurant is incredibly clean and very nice. The staff are all amazing and kind. The food is brought out fresh and has amazing flavor. They have balanced everything so well that no one thing overpowers the other when it comes to taste. The Diablo sauce has really good kick for those who like heat. I've seen many complaints about onions on here but it didn't seem as heavy as many of the reviews stated. All the different marinated porks are fall off the bone tender, and the mini taco salads are great.
