I had never heard of this little "hole in the wall" restaurant before that Saturday night. I was in the area with a friend who had recently moved from there. We had planned to get dinner somewhere and my only qualifier had been that it be somewhere that had something her 6 year old son would like. That included anywhere that had chicken fingers or a short list of other child favorites. I knew about the usual chain restaurants and fast food places in the area but didn't know the other places the area's residents frequent that have really good food. Tonya mentioned a "meat and three" restaurant that was really good, had a very diverse menu, and was next to a gas station/convenience store. That sounded just like what I was looking for! Boy, was I in for a surprise! George's Southside Restaurant was a "nothing fancy hole in the wall" that served breakfast, "meat and three" lunches and dinners, burgers and a number of ethnic Greek-type delights. Her favorite was the Mediterranean Salad, a Greek salad with grilled chicken. I considered that, the wonderful meat and three choices (I love BBQ ribs, country fried steak, pork chops, greens, mac and cheese and fried eggplant, some of their selections for the day). Instead, I chose their seafood. They have fresh seafood every Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights! I love fried oysters and shrimp, but decided to give their seafood platter a try. It had NE-style clam chowder (or a salad), and a veritable fried Thanksgiving: fish, shrimp, oysters, scallops and deviled crab, plus hush puppies, of course, and a side! I couldn't believe the reasonable price: roughly $12-something for the regular and $14-something (my best recollection) for the large platter. I often make several meals out of a dinner out, so I chose the larger one for roughly $1.50 more to stretch it even further. First, the waitress brought out the bowl of chowder and lots of crackers. It was creamy and good, but I stopped myself a few minutes in so I'd have room for what was coming. Oh my goodness! That's what it was: seafood goodness! When the platters were brought out, one had the flounder, deviled crab, baked potato and hush puppies. The other had the nice-sized fried shrimp, the sea scallops and the beautiful oysters I'd been craving! I asked for cocktail and tartar sauces and the waitress returned with their homemade companions to the fabulous seafood! Delicious! I kept saying "OMIGOSH!" It was THAT good! I ate my fill of the shrimp, oysters and scallops and asked for takeout boxes. I used one for the remaining shrimp, oysters and scallops, plus the small containers of both sauces. The other box was for the flounder, deviled crab, baked potato and the packets of buttery spread and sour cream. Of yes, and a cup for the remaining chowder! That feast provided several more meals at home! I'd never heard of George's Southside Restaurant before, but it's all I've been talking about since! I am definitely planning a return trip! 💕 Love George's...
Read moreFirst off the waitress deserves 5 stars as she was very nice. The reason for the 1 star review is that the baked potato was brought basically raw and we were told they were no longer serving breakfast but then made an exception for the table behind us which was served breakfast. FYI we wanted the breakfast plates. Conclusion go somewhere else you’ll enjoy your “cooked” food much more.
Edit/Update: I did alert the waitress once I finally got her attention and exchanged them for fries. Everyone was already finished by the time they arrived. We specifically asked for breakfast and were told they stopped serving it at 11. I found your reply to my review incredibly rude. I am only reviewing this place because we are not from the area and found your place on google and thought we would give it a try to just be disappointed and now disrespected. I am only reviewing so that others who are not from the area and reading reviews know. Sounds like you need to up your customer service game sir....
Read moreLove this place. Great home style cooking and awesome service. Regardless of how busy they most often are, they provide very fast and personable service. You know if the locals frequent the place its got to be good. The owner, Peter has kept the tradition alive, that you are not just a customer, you are family. Its very rare to find a restaurant now days where the servers care enough about you to remember you. But this awesome wait staff go far and above that and after only a couple of times remember you by name and are happy to see you again. The kitchen staff are the same. They take personal care in preparing your food and they sure give portions you won't find anywhere else. I highly recommend George's Southside for a great start to...
