Four of us were looking for a local place and decided to come here for dinner. We made a reservation since it was a Saturday night and arrived at the appointed time. Eventually, the host came out of a back room to greet us. He offered us indoor or outdoor seating as there were multiple tables available in both areas. We selected a spot and he immediately took us there. I guess a reservation was not really necessary after all.
We sat down and perused the menu. The manager came over for a brief chat and among other things explained that they were short-staffed (like all restaurants these days) but we also spoke about their food, the special of the day (trout) and a few other things. The waitress also came by and we ordered our selections: A veggie pizza, the eggplant parm, Chicken Marsala, and Shrimp pasta dish. We each ordered a glass of wine or a drink as well. We passed on appetizers or salads.
A few minutes later, the waitress came back with a bread plate that also had a square plate of olive oil with a few herbs in it. While we wish there were more herbs in the oil, the fact that the bread was served warm was a definite plus!
The food arrived in due course and it was executed well. All the dishes were good and none of them were exceptional. The reason I mention this is that you probably noticed that I gave this restaurant a rating of four stars. The reason I chose not to go with a five-star rating even though almost all of my comments are positive is that while everything was good, the prices are high for what you get. We ended up spending $40 per person. For this we got one entrée and one drink. For that price I want to get food that is done exceptionally well. This was done well, but not that much better than restaurants where I would pay $25 per person for the same dishes.
The surroundings are pleasant in both the indoor seating area and the outdoor area. There is also a semi-private area in the back where private parties can be handled. The staff was professional and attentive. They were hustling throughout the meal and the restaurant. A nice...
Read moreI visited Toscana for the first time with my parents for dinner after hearing many good things about the restaurant since they had visited on multiple previous occasions.
We had a reservation but it was a calm evening so it probably was not necessey. We were greeted and seated immediately and we had very good service the whole evening. First, we were given fresh sourdough bread and an herbed dipping oil to enjoy as we waited for our meals. I ordered the salmon salad and they both ordered shrimp with basil linguine. Apparently this is their favorite dish. My mother prefers it without anchovies, but my dad likes the anchovies which a cut up very finely and really just add a bit of extra depth to the flavor. I really enjoyed my salmon salad. The salmon was cooked very nicely and all the veg was fresh and tasty. Also, the dressing was fantastic - very flavorful. We had a dessert coupon, so we split a dessert. They seem to rotate dessert offerings, but anyways we selected the strawberry cheesecake with chocolate covered strawberries. I wasn't a big fan of the cheesecake, the textures were just ok, but the chocolate covered strawberries with excellent. I really can't complain about free dessert, that was nice!
I would definitely come back. It's pricey and South Pointe is far from my home, so it will probably stay a special occasion type of place for me. Lunches are more affordable so employees of the local businesses could definitely enjoy a...
Read moreExcellent. To start, the warm bread has hands-down the nicest, most tender, flaky crust I’ve ever encountered on Italian bread. I’m not a crust lover. But I just learned it’s because I never had THIS crust before. I’m changed. The olive oil is super smooth and nicely spiced, and that’s another “I don’t usually love this”. I’d probably drink this olive oil. Caesar salad? Delicious dressing with just the right amount of zip, tang and salt. The croutons seem to have a hint of pepper? They add just a touch of “something different” and enjoyable. Stuffed peppers tasted like if you had an Italian grandmother who knew how to throw down. These would be on your table on a Sunday.
Chicken picatta and meatballs are yet to be served. It’s kindof slow, but I don’t even care. My mouth is happy and I’m appreciating a little break before the next course. To be fair, this place is “reservations only” and we got lucky to land a couple of seats at the bar. It’s otherwise all booked up for the weekend, so the kitchen was full-tilt before we nabbed a...
