Bo Mac's — Restaurant in Cedar Rapids

I HOPE THE OWNERS SEE THIS!!!

We went to Bo Mac’s to get tenderloins as a last hurrah before they close.(best tenderloin in town) We go to pay with cash, and also went to the car to grab more cash to make the 20% tip… when my partner came back in, we waited for 10+ minutes confused, but waited… we grab the waitress again to ask for the change so that we could add the rest of the tip onto it, and she pulls out our money from her pocket(with receipt still unprocessed), and proceeds to say “I’m confused?” And we say, oh we’re just waiting for our change to tip… she then goes to an area where there was no cash register and stands there a bit, before asking another employee if they have a $5 on them.

It was all very scummy. I would understand if she processed our payment and thought the rest was tip I would understand, but she didn’t process it at all and kept multiple folded up receipts in her pocket. After it all happen, all we could think was “if theyre closing due to financial reasons it makes sense..” we never got a receipt back showing that payment was processed and she didn’t go to the cash register. It really did seem as though she was pocketing it. But so many people showed up to support the last couple of days—she was goi no to make great tips regardless.

This was my first visit to Bo Mac's. I had ridden by on my bicycle many times without ever noticing that this place existed, but my spouse visited with a friend and recommended it. I visited on a Saturday late morning, one in a group of hungry cyclists halfway through a 60-mile bicycle ride. It was just passed opening, and we were the first customers of the day. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and we ordered a variety of entrees for lunch. I also managed to find a draft beer that I had not previously tasted, which is no small feat. I had the mushroom and bleu cheese burger with their signature potato pancakes side. (For the record, these are not conventional potato pancakes that you might order at a breakfast place. Instead they are mashed potatoes, savory with herbs, and fried pancake style on a griddle. This is a description, not a criticism.) The burger and potato pancakes were both very tasty. Colleagues ordered the pork tenderloin, salmon sandwich & Reuben. Everyone in the group expressed satisfaction with their choices. My daughter and I wanted to go out to lunch for her birthday and after recently falling in love with Fried Green Tomatoes in Georgia we decided to try them at Bo Mac's. We started with adult beverages, mine was an adult coffee beverage, forgot the name but they did brew fresh coffee for it. Next we ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes and Bruchetta. The FGT's did not disappoint. I would prefer a little more seasoning in the breading but the Chipotle mayo made up for it. The Bruchetta is beautifully displayed. I'm not a big fan of it usually but it has avocado on it so we gave it a try. I like my avocado a bit less ripe than what was served but I would still recommend. For the entrée we split the Creole Chicken Wrap, It was delicious and tasted fresh. I ordered the homemade chicken noodle soup to go and it was amazing too. Steller service, if I had to guess, our server may have been the owner. The atmosphere is very comfortable and they have a cute & spacious...
