After today's experience I will never come back. I have been a supporter of this coffee shop for quite some time. I enjoy the updates on social media and the people. Today was quite different. I didn't appreciate how I was treated. Starting with my order I have been getting matcha lattes here with almond milk for quite some time. Yes I'm aware as with every place there is an upcharge for that. Here the way they make them you can barely taste any matcha so I would make it a point to ask for a little extra. I always asked if it was an extra charge and was always told no even by people who have worked there a long time. I was told today asking for extra was a 2 dollar upcharge. I was told it has been like that since June. I was told the upcharge was due to people asking for extra over time. I kindly explained to them that people are asking for extra because they can't taste it. I provided feedback in a calm manner. I was not rude. It was just constructive feedback which businesses should be receptive to. I was told to have a nice day which sounded a bit condescending considering the circumstances. Not an I'm sorry they haven't been charging you or we will take your feedback in to consideration and hope you come back. None of that. There is a coffee shop in Iowa City that carries ceremonial grade matcha which I assume is expensive and even with almond milk, I'm not paying well over 9 dollars for it. You can also taste it very well so there is no need to ask for extra. Since customers have mentioned to you that they ask for extra because they can't taste it, my hope is that feedback is listened to in an open manner rather than a customer feeling a bit dismissed today. My hope is whoever left the Face Savoring emoji wasn't an employee as that is...
Read moreA lovely small café with a good selection of freshly roasted coffee.
Cannot speak to the coffee drinks, or food, only of the environment and coffee beans. Personal diet restrictions prevent my experience of these options. Though, the menus are large and legible, and glass display cases hold picturesque pastry deserts and drinks.
Hours: 6am-6pm, Mon-Fri 8am-2pm, Saturday. Closed Sundays.
The service is always quick and the employees always friendly. The shop’s inside is comfortably temperate, often with music playing. It’s aesthetic is chic yet minimalist, with plenty of seating for several people. Never have I felt unwelcome here. I’ve also noticed a pleasant aroma of coffee in the air of the café. A large window with the shop’s name is out front by the door.
This is the one café I’ve been to which sells properly roasted coffee beans, with accurate descriptions and roast dates on each bag. Now, the coffee isn’t cheap by most people’s standards. However, for the quality and consistency at which they sell their coffee, it’s unmatched. When it’s available, the Decaf Colombian they sell there is perfect. Plently of variety and different blends occasionally.
My only complaint is there’s no pricing on the bags, or anything self branded being sold. (The mugs are great!) A little odd, but never an issue, just expect to spend $15-20 for 12 oz. beans. They will accept larger tender, and cards as well.
Highly recommend if you’re living or visiting CR., Iowa! They have a good website too, and even ship fresh...
Read moreOk, THESE people know how to make a cappuccino. That I prefer.
In the area I’ve reviewed, Roaster’s and Stillwater of Hiawatha. Their beans in general and cappuccino specifically do not hold a candle to Dash’s
Their beans are that brown, non oily type that I’ve mentioned before. It is not dark-almost burnt like. Their coffee is light. One might say too light.
2 the cappuccino was light too, unlike the other 2 coffee houses mentioned. I had Stillwater the day before and could not finish the cappuccino. Waaay to dark.
The steamed milk, sooo I’m mentioning this because it was that noticeable between what I had yesterday and today. It was perfect for lack of better words. Rich, not too frothy but the Bubbles where micro and pleasantly delicious.
Not to mention a fine latte art. I walked to my car so It got messed up. I appreciate that detail even though it was a cup to go. Just speaks to a level of higher care/standard.
My only complaint (I laughed in my head about this) is how they described the bag of coffee I bought. I asked if their beans where dark or medium roast. The employee said they don’t roast too light or too dark, and told me about how the coffee would make me feel etc. like using words to describe coffee that are not food/liquid related words but like feeling and object words. It was weird. Their coffee is of a 3rd wave influence. Like I said the brown non oily beans.
It was weird and pretty funny. Anyways definitely...
