I finally made it down to try out Cobble Hill last night for my parents 51st wedding anniversary. To say I was impressed would be a vast understatement! First off, the vibe here is perfect. Its cozy, inviting, and decorated with just the right amount of holiday cheer. The service was top notch all around. You are never left wanting and all your needs are met from start to finish with a smile, good humor, and the friendly banter you hope to find but rarely do these days. We started out with the charceuterie board. What a showstopper! That in house made sausage and andouie "spread" with paprika was to die for, but it all was absolutely spectacular! It was a very generous portion for the four of us and we were kindly offered more bread to continue to almost entirely polish off the whole board. It was phenomenal. For my entree I ordered the Duroc pork. I have been blessed to eat at some very highly reguarded restaurants in my life and I have eaten some delicious meals, with that said I must add this entree to my top list of meals I have ever eaten. It was sensational! The duroc absolutely MELTED in my mouth. It was so tender and buttery. The citrus and pistachio, and honestly every bite that was paired with it on that plate, came together in a perfect harmony of flavors that I will remember and think back on fondly for a long time to come. My mom and sister enjoyed their arctic char and my dad had the flat iron, which was flavored nicely for him but texturely a bit more chewy than he would have tyoically preferred. For dessert we ordered the sweet potato mochi as well as the 100 layer apple cake. Both desserts were delicious! I especially enjoyed the fact that neither were overly sweet. If I had to choose I would say that the sweet potato mochi was my winner, it was absolutely amazing and the texture of it was beautifully done. All in all I had a truly magical experience and look forward to coming back again some day!

This review maybe a bit jaded. We were a large group of eleven. No indoor seating was available so we were relegated to the outdoor patio. It is early evening July in Iowa with a heat wave warning. On our arrival while waiting for the rest of our party we enjoyed some delicious inspired cocktails. The bar has a good energy and the bartender was attentive, helpful and accommodating. High marks for these ladies. We then were seated on the patio and the hostess and staff were clearly aware of the less than favorable conditions. They tried to accommodate the discomfort by providing hand fans and wet napkins to place around the neck if so desired. The food was prepared to order and the wait staff was attentive though a bit slow at times. The food options were somewhat limited when it came to he entrees but there was an option for red meat, fish, vegetarian and fowl. Presentation when plating the food was well done. The food was fresh and delicious. I had a pork chop that was moist and cooked to a perfect temperature. The barbecued peas were a treat. My companions were complimentary to what they ordered. Desserts were well received and they too had attractive appearance on the plate. My only negatives has to do with the flies that were a persistent pest during the entire meal. Much more than a slight or occasional annoyance. Staff provided some repellent spray which when applied in the tight patio area allows for overspray to permeate. The addition of some supplementary air handling would have been greatly appreciated. If you are going to seat people outdoors for upscale dining then this is a necessary accommodation or just don’t offer the option. I do not harbor any resentment toward the staff that did their best and were empathetic however management did not equip them for success. Most likely I will not return. I was looking forward to this experience and my expectations were not met.

This is a casual fine dining restaurant in Cedar Rapids Iowa. We went here for dinner with friends and family. We had a couple of cocktails (gentleman pirate, above the clouds, French oak old fashioned) and a mocktail ( honey bee). For appetizers we had the sweet green peas soup, creamy polenta, vegan version of the bibb salad and the vegetarian version of the Parisian gnocchi. For the mains we had the roasted cauliflower ( one vegan portion and one as in menu), the flat iron ( vegetarian version with the steak replaced with the seasonal veggies) and the spinach tagliatelle. For desserts we had the macarons and the pinna colada sorbet ( vegan). Even though we had a reservation we had to wait for around 10 minutes for the take to be ready since the previous guests took a little bit more time than expected. The hostess was really polite and quick to respond. We were a group of vegetarians and one vegan. The hostess helped us to understand which of the dishes could need made vegetarian/vegan. The ones they replaced they adjusted the price accordingly(reduced the main dish price by half for the vegetarian version), which is to be appreciated. I really liked all the dishes and flavors in the dishes. The highlights were the vegetarian Parisian gnocchi, roasted cauliflower with the chickpeas in a tomato stew, spinach tagliatelle and the desserts. I really liked the cocktails as well. Parking can be an issue since this restaurant is in downtown. But metered parking is available along the street. We were able to find parking right in front of the restaurant. Overall it was a really good dining experience.

Eating at Cobble Hill was the best customer experience that I've had at a restaurant. For starters, it was my wife and I's three-year anniversary, and they left us a sweet note on our table before we even sat down! All of the food and drinks were fantastic. The sourdough starter had a beautiful char to it, and all of the seasonal cocktails were spot on (yes, we tried nearly all of them). For our entrees, I got the Niman Ranch Flat Iron Steak and my wife got the Grimm Family Farm Chicken. The steak was perfectly seasoned and I could have eaten a dozen of the potato fritters. I didn't eat much of my wife's but she was extremely satisfied and said the skin on the chicken really made the dish stand out. For dessert, we got the Cobble Hill Twix and Praline Macarons (they rotate the macaron flavors). Both were fantastic, but a huge shout-out to whoever achieved the perfect chewy texture on those macarons. Last but not least, I want to thank Nate, our server, who had more attention to detail than any server I've had in the past. After each course, our table was wiped down and new silverware was provided, he knew drink combinations with every food item, and was just a joy to have around. Thank you all for a wonderful night!

Cobble Hill Restaurant Layout/Vibe Rating - The restaurant from the outside gives the feeling of small and quaint. Once in, it’s much more extensive than anticipated. Low lighting and perfect for a special occasion (in our case, our 18th wedding anniversary and my wife’s birthday) I loved the entire layout and feel, from the front brick walls to the open kitchen in the back, where you could watch food prep underway. Customer Service Rating - Amazing! Steven or Stephen (not sure how he spells it) was fantastic! We were checked in with quickly, all staff was very knowledgeable, and checked in with us many times. Our table was wiped down after our appetizer, main dish, and we always had room. Top-notch for sure, and I can’t wait to have our next special occasion here. Food Rating - Oh my. We did a tuna and muscle appetizer. I can’t say enough about the food. We ordered the flat iron steak and halibut as our main dish. Everything was amazingly fresh, grade +++, and prepared to perfection. Overall our visit was amazing and made a special milestone very memorable. Thanks to all who served us at Cobble Hill, and especially Steven, our server :)!

I came with my friends for a celebration. We drove all the way from Iowa City. We had a reservation at 8:15 pm and was only seated 20 minutes later. In terms of food, we ordered three entrees to share: steak, pork, and chicken leg. The steak (see pic) was requested to be cooked medium, but it turned out that the three pieces except for the middle pink one was over cooked. Not chewy and not tender, which I think is a result of mediocre food quality and chef skill. The mushrooms were burnt and inedible. The other two entrees were too salty too, but at least ok to eat. Considering the portion and the quality of food we got, I would consider the items pricy. In terms of service, our server was nice but spent a lot of time talking about items that had to be replaced from the menu. When I communicated the feedback about food, he seemed to be a bit embarrassed and did not provide any make-up, compensation, or solutions, other than asking us whether we want desserts. In addition, the food was slow, which is particularly concerning as we had a late dinner already and did not get to our table until almost 9pm. Very disappointed and will not come back.
