Perkins American Food Co. — Restaurant in Cedar Rapids

This is the Best place to come and get a meal. We had the 9.99 burger and pie. Great deal and we also got a free kids meal with our food. Kids eat free on Tuesdays. We didn't know that. This place as very clean all over and the staff was wonderful. The server said she has worked for Perkins for 12years and so had the other girl. I went here with my wife for breakfast. When we sat down I noticed the waitress (Sandy) wasthe same one we had before who had given us poor service. I thought perhaps she was having a bad day, so I didn't say anything on our previous visit. Sure enough she still had the same attitude that translates to being in a hurry to take your order. She talks over you when you are ordering as though she wants to know the information when she wants it. By this I mean I was ordering the eggs with bacon and she blurted out " how do you want your eggs" while I was saying I wanted the bacon extra crispy. Needless to say, the bacon was not crispy at all.

I ordered the eggs over medium, which they were, but they were hanging off the side of the plate with the yoke broken on one and dripping off the side of the plate.

My wife ordered a side of french toast instead of pancakes with her meal. Those were served to her slightly toasted with very little egg batter and no powerded sugar. This was how she served them.

Understand this, my wife is in the restaurant business and will not send anything back for fear of a wacko cook doing something to her food.

There were other issues with our visit. She did not check back to see if we needed more coffee in the pot, which we did. She served the plates so fast that she didn't ask if we wanted other sauce with our meal, which we did, and then disappeared for a long period of time.

Additionally, we sat down to order and she did not come back for almost 10 minutes as she was cleaning tables. Another couple that she waited on was served at least 5 minutes before we were even though they came in well after we had placed our order.

I complained to the service manage upon leaving to pay and she was kind enough to listen to everything I said and then comped the meal.

Though I understand everyone has bad days, this particular waitress does not care what the condition of the food is when she serves it. I believe she is not good for the image Perkins wants to present.

I know some of you will say the condition of the food, and presentation is on the cook, but a good waitress will have them do it over if not up to standards. One other problem was when she finally served our food she emphasized the plates were very hot. I believe the plates sat under the service window light for so long they became very hot. I believe she was using that as a cover because she did not serve us when it was ready.

I like the breakfast at Perkins, but I will specifically ask to sit in a different servers area from now on. Service means as much as the food. That is why I rated this...

This is addressed to corporate officers. This is one of the dirtiest restaurants I've ever been in. When I first arrived I went to the ladies restroom, and the first thing I noticed was the smell, a mixture of urine and disinfectant. The toilet was loose, and there was no soap in the dispenser. Most disturbing was the black gunk around the tile on the baseboard, there was a quarter inch of this gunk. This is what happens when a floor is never properly cleaned, just mopped with a wet mop, the flith builds up on the baseboard. The hostess went to seat me, I asked for a quiet area, she left me at a dirty table near the back. The table had a film on it, and stains. She came back tried to wipe it off with a soaking wet bar towel, it did not come clean. All the tables had this greasy film, and stains on them. The manager came over and told me this section was closed. I had enough, I told him the place was too dirty and the restroom smell killed my appetite. As I walked out I noticed how truly disgustingly filthy this place was. I took some pictures of the entrance, the sidewalk was black with grease, and the windows looked hazy from grime too. Have they ever been cleaned, or washed? The door handle area was filthy, lots of buildup of germs, bacteria, disease, wash your hands after opening the door...you'll have to bring your own soap, or use a baby wipe. Do not bring an infant into this environment, their immune system wouldn't be strong enough to handle it. Seriously, Not a good first impression, not at all. I walked back to my vehicle parked in back, and the funk, the stench, that hit me near the backdoor made me gag, and I was glad I left without eating. I can only imagine how dirty kitchen must be. Doesn't Iowa have Health Codes, and Health Inspectors? I felt like I was in a third world country, not a Perkins. Seriously how does a place where people eat become so damned nasty! Surely I can't be the only one who noticed this... apparently the manager never has. I wonder how horribly nasty his home and car must look! All this does not reflect well on the staff, or community, as I try to understand why anyone would eat here.
