(Only 1 star because I couldn’t leave no stars) I would never speak bad about a restaurant publicly on social media mainly because I rather have the guts to say what needed to be said AT the restaurant vs on any social media platform for the simple reason being, if something wasn’t good or was incorrect with our meal, you obviously bring it up to your server at the moment and hopefully your meal gets fixed exchanged or completely taken off the bill depending on the situation.
Unfortunately today that was not the case. I will NEVER go back to Sushi House ( 2665 Edgewood Pkwy SW Unit 100 Cedar Rapids, IA 52404) First of all.. portions were already ridiculously small and to top it off the restaurant really had to be stingy and in need of money so bad that gratuity was added when it was 3 adults, 2 kids and a baby?? (ALL UNDER 9 Years Old) and I mean a baby who can barely even eat solid food.
Second: My sister in law absolutely does not like mushrooms at all, everywhere we go she will always special request that her food does not have any mushrooms. She ordered the Lo-Mein with NO mushroom (received Chow-Mein) and Fried rice with vegetables no mushroom as well. One of her meals still ended up with mushrooms, and when we let our server know her response was “uh no that’s what you ordered”… we tried to explain the situation but they made such a big deal out of it my sister in law ended up leaving it be.
Now onto my meal … I ordered the chicken Teriyaki. Simple. No special request. The chicken came out very fatty and chunky, almost as if it wasn’t even chicken, and to be nice I’ll say the taste was just not there AT ALL. I did not even eat any of it except the single piece to try, I nicely asked our server if there was any way they can swap it out for something else, her response “ I can talk to my manager but it will be a no”. she then comes back after 10 minutes of walking past us to ask what else I would want. At that point I told her I did not want anything else, I just want it taken off the bill. Again Her response “ I will tell you right now they will not take it off the bill so if you want something else to order I can get it”. I was not shy to let her know I was NOT going to pay for something I did not like or eat at all. I also let her know I wanted to talk to the manager and let them know myself what was going on but unfortunately she never once came to speak to me but she was sure to glare at us from afar. Nice 👍🏻 Long story short, I only paid for my “very watered down ALL broth and barely any vegetable or chicken in it soup”. The crab Rangoon’s were honestly the only good thing for me tonight. Not even the sprite tasted good and there were black specs in it 😭, like how much worse could it have gotten👎🏼 and I promise I am NOT picky. This was honestly the most horrible experience I’ve ever had. I’m sorry that this review was long but I was honestly so disappointed unsatisfied and irritated. I cannot believe the restaurants policy and the training that was given to the server if you want to call that training. Definitely...
Read moreAfter seeing and reading through so many 4 and 5 star reviews, I was excited and highly anticipating my visit to the Sushi House, which my family and I do once every 4 months or so but I am sad to say that we walked away feeling like we wasted $70.
Atmosphere/Layout: The atmosphere is great. Very nice decorations. Chinese and Japanese aesthetics are one of the reasons I enjoy such places. It was incredibly busy (expected of a Saturday night at 6:45) but due to either poor planning or restrictive space of their location, there's next to no waiting space, so people are piled on top of each other in a painfully small area next to the front door, and even forced to stand in a small enclosure just outside of the restaurant.
Service: Our particular server was next to lifeless and inattentive. He was very polite and no incorrect orders or drinks so credit where credit is due. However, it took 4 glances at our table to see we were out of drinks. Granted again, it was busy but that comes with the territory. I couldn't help but wish we had gotten... any other server.
Food: The Angry Dragon Sushi roll that I ordered? Italian hand-kissing gesture It was fantastic. No complaints. However, my mother ordered the spicy scallop roll and afterward informed me she was forcing herself to stomach a very gelatinous texture in her roll that she'd never experienced at any other sushi restaurant. My grandmother ordered a mixed tempura platter on which everything arrived breaded. A very heavy and greasy dish which was accompanied by literally zero flavor on any of the various pieces of the dish.
Overall, we walked away very disappointed and sad from the experience. The food primarily and the cost associated with it felt like a tremendous waste. We have had much better for much less...
Read moreI have visited before on several occasions and had good experiences that's why I was excited to go today. Arrived within 5 minutes of opening and was seated and attended right away. We ordered water and immediately placed our order ,Generals chicken and cashew chicken. Crab rangoon. My lunch companion noted that a table of 4 that came in after we did was already served there food while we, half an hour after ordering, still waited. Appetizers came out quickly but I eat my rangoon with my entree. My companion ordered egg drop soup and it also was out promptly. When our orders came I was happy with the freshness , flavor and quantity of food. I had ordered a dinner size , my partner, the lunch size. He commented on the noticeable size difference but after seeing the price difference he felt better about it. He made no comment about quality with the exception of that the crab rangoon are rather thick wraps and chewy, not very flavorful other than cream cheese, no noticeable crab or onion nor sweetness. I think it was 4.95 for 3. About 20 minutes after served, the waitress asked if I wanted a carryout box. I said no. She started clearing our dishes.....I felt rushed...it took over half and hour to bring my food to the table ....she then brought the ticket....we were not loud , we weren't rude...I still left a 20 percent tip but the meal wasn't so good that I wont look elsewhere for my next Asian fix. If you are looking for Asian at a similar price, I would suggest Mandarin Spice near Lindale or Tings Red Lantern. I never have had a bad experience at either. Also note, this is a fairly small restaurant, it filled fast after opening. It was cold. Everytime someone enters a blast of cold air shoots through the restaurant. Bring a sweater and...
