I recently dined at Big Bill’s New York Pizza, and while I had high expectations based on the reviews, my experience was somewhat underwhelming. There were definitely some positives, but a few key issues kept this from being a great meal.
Starting with the garlic balls, they were noticeably undercooked, leaving the inside doughy and unpleasant. It might help if they were brought to room temperature before baking to ensure they cook evenly. The pizza itself had some highs and lows—the sauce was actually quite good, with a nice balance of flavor. However, the cheese was a big disappointment. Instead of having that classic stretchy, melty texture, it just broke apart, which made it feel like a lower-quality ingredient than I expected.
The crust was okay—not bad, but it lacked flavor and didn’t stand out. Another major issue was the pineapple on the pizza, which was extremely hard. Fresh pineapple can be great on pizza when done right, but this was tough and difficult to chew, which took away from the overall experience.
On a more positive note, the salad was a generous portion, which I appreciated. However, the balsamic dressing wasn’t blended well, so the oil and vinegar kept separating, making it inconsistent with each bite. One of the most surprising letdowns was the drinking water—it had a really unpleasant taste. It might be worth considering a water filtration system to improve this.
Overall, I left feeling that the quality of ingredients didn’t quite match the hype from the reviews I had read beforehand. The place has potential, and I can see why it’s popular, but I think some upgrades to the ingredients and attention to detail could really improve the dining experience. I wouldn’t completely rule out returning, but I’d hope for some improvements...
Read moreWhen I moved to the area in 2012, the first time I had a craving for Pizza, I ordered Bills. It was a terrific pie. The crust was fluffy and chewy, the cheese not too greasy, the sauce zesty, and the topping were aplenty.
Unfortunately, over the past few years I believe the quality has gone significantly downhill. I'm not entirely sure what's caused the change, but suspect at least a number of the ingredients are sourced from different vendors. The Italian sausage stands out as something that I recall being different, and FAR better, in my visits from years back. The crust is also not what I remember. Previously the crusts of a good Bill's pizza was practically my favorite part of the pie, with the consistency almost of a good bagel. Now it's much less soft and airy; replaced by a more dense variant. I'm happy to say that they are still generous with their toppings. None of this "2 circles of pepperoni per slice" you see every now and then.
The service has always been friendly to me at Bill's, and while the place is almost always busy around dinner time I don't believe you can really fault a restaurant for their popularity.
This review is based solely on my experiences with the quality of their pizza over the past year or two. I wish I could say differently, but in my opinion it is now on par with many of the local pizza chains, and not very close to its glory days. I was happy to shell out $20+ a pie before, but in the future if I'm treating myself to a "high quality" non-chain pizza, it will most likely be somewhere else.
I'll finish by saying that while I'm no longer a big fan of their pizza, Bill himself is a great influence on the community. You can tell he cares for his employees and...
Read moreSeeing ourselves in Centennial, we decided to find a local New York pizza restaurant to support during our time in this city. Growing up I remember always going to Big Bill’s after soccer matches and enjoying their breadsticks, nostalgia, and big New York slices of pizza.
Almost a decade later & nothing has changed which is incredible!
Walking into this establishment, you will be immortalized by the amount of photos of New York & sports memorabilia. There’s a wall full of pictures of Big Bill (the owner) with numerous famous people which is really intriguing. Don’t be off-put with the green and white inside decor and older chairs and tables. It helps bring in the atmosphere of a true New York pizzeria.
We ordered the Sticks & Bones (Garlic Breadsticks & Garlic Knots) and for $4.75 the amount you receive is enough to feed 3-4 people easily. Great value and the quality is not sacrificed. Their marinara sauce was a great compliment to their light, fluffy bread appetizers.
We also ordered a medium New York style cheese pizza and we ended up getting a large - seeing that it was only $0.50 more. The pizza came out hot and ready to eat. The pizza has the perfect amount of sauce to cheese ratio. The oily nature of the pizza really brought us back to the time we were in New York City. This pizza was a home run. Again, enough to feed 3-4 people easily.
All together it was $22.15 before tax which is a huge steal for the quantity and quality of food you received.
If you’re in Centennial, there’s no debate. This is the Best New York Pizza in the city - just like I remembered...
