Arrived a bit early for dinner as my wife was really wanting to try this restaurant and was craving Korean-Chinese food. Arrived at 5:20pm. When my wife was ordering the server said no noodles on the side because it is too busy and the instructions might get mixed up with another order. Mind you, there were two other tables occupied, both already had their food and were eating. No big deal. She repeated the order verbally and we said yes that’s correct.
30 minutes later no food was served to us. Meanwhile during that time three new tables were occupied after we had already placed our order. Two of them were eating their meals already. My wife asked the server if the food is coming. Server replied yes, it’s coming out very shortly. 10 mins later (6:00pm) the third table’s food was served and they also started to eat their meals. My wife asked the server again about our order and the server asked what did we order? She jotted it down and then said in Korean, “oh that’s right you ordered jajangmyeon“ (that was one of four dishes we ordered). She walked away and I could hear her tell the kitchen in Korean “to start our order next instead of the one he was going to start next.” I looked around and everyone was eating happily except us. I told my wife it’s time to leave now. My wife is so kind she actually went to tell the server we are leaving. Immediately, the server yelled in Korean to the kitchen “forget that order, don’t make it.” No apologies at all, nothing.
This had to have been the worst dining experience I’ve had due to horrendous and downright disrespectful and rude service (and I’ve been to many, many Korean owned restaurants) since moving down to Northern VA in 2008. It sure ruined my mood but more importantly really made my wife sad and...
Read moreAs a Korean American that understands the significance of Jajang Myeon as a go to food for many Koreans wanting their fill, my two visits there have been dissapointing. I came here a few months ago since our family's go to was recently taken over by new ownership. Saw the reviews and decided to try.
Our first visit we ordered 3 jajang (black bean sauce noodles) one jampong (spicy seafood noodle soup) and the tangsuyuk (deep-fried sweet and sour pork). The tangsuyuk was good but the jajang was VERY bland. The Spicy seafood lacked any roasted flavor you typicallly get from this or any other dish served in Korean Chinese restaurants. We checked this off and said, at least we tried.
Last night as part of a large party, we tried again (desperate for our comfort food) and when I ordered their roast version (which costs more, made to order and is supposed to have deeper flavor) it was tremendously frustrating because it was so bland and unflavorful. We also ordered a bowl of their regular jajang and both really missed. It's supposed to be a savory and sweet food with full on wok tossed taste. NEVER in my jajang life have I ever contemplated adding soy sauce or sugar or salt, ever.
This place must be hit and miss. One recent reviewer says it was way too salty. Another states they felt like adding their own sugar and condiments. Either way the food still lacked that authentic wok tossed and charred flavor synonymous with these dishes.
Unfortunately I will not be going back, this place misses on satisfying the craving for comfort...
Read moreIt is a clean and nice Korean-Chinese restaurant. This restaurant offers various Korean-Chinese menu. Service is attentive and food are delicious. Their Jjajang noodles is not sweeter side which tells me this is not an old-fashion style jjajang noodles. It is still delicious but noodles are a bit hard. Their tang suyook is righteous. Some Korean-Chinese restaurants fry tang suyook meats ahead of time (to save time and quickly serve). That process makes meat dry out quickly (and become hard). Hao Ru's tang sooyuk is fresh and delicious. I believe they fry meats each time they get tang sooyuk order. I definitely recommend it. Their serve hot tea in stainless insulated cup which looks fancy and stays warm for longer. It is a nice touch. Hao Ru is clean and a spacious restaurant.
