We moved to the area a little over a year ago and have been searching for restaurants to add to our list of places to dine regularly. This place is a BYO, so that was a bonus. Osteria Ama is close by and the interior is very nicely done. Clean, welcoming and tables appropriately spread out. However, that's about it for the good stuff. The place was virtually empty so we were seated right away but it took an unusually long time for someone to bring us a menu and then take our order. We started with the baked brie appetizer--it was supposed to be apricot honey walnut baked brie. It was more like slightly warm brie with a little honey and a handful of whole (not crushed), walnuts thrown on top. The pita it came with was good but the brie was not. It was not at all as described on the menu either. My husband got the crab cakes. They came out and looked pretty good. They actually came out as described - it was two crab cakes--there was not one single other thing on the cast iron skillet on which they were served. Not even a sprig of parsley. Despite looking good, they were all filler and had no taste. I had the gnocchi with brown butter sage, served with fresh ricotta. As another reviewer pointed out, the sauce was not brown butter sage and I will add that the ricotta was not fresh. The sauce had no flavor. The ricotta was not fresh. The gnocchi were subpar. It was not good. In spite of all this we thought we would try dessert. We ordered the salted honey walnut ice cream. It was some flavor of freezer burnt ice cream with a handful of whole walnuts thrown in. Again, not good. To top it all off we paid in cash when the bill came and waited about 10 minutes for our change. Then the server came over and asked us if we needed change?! If someone pays cash and doesn't tell you up front that they do not need change, you either ask them right then and there if they need change, or you simply bring them the change. We responded that we needed change; we are generous tippers but a 30% tip was not going to happen. Then as if to punish us for not leaving a 30% tip, it took another 10 minutes for us to get our change. It was as if he was waiting us out to see if we would just give up on getting our change and leave--and leave him with a 30% tip. This left a decidedly bad taste in our mouth (pretty much the only actual "taste" in our mouth while dining there). We really love BYO places and small family owned places and we wanted to love this place. It was packed by the time we left, which completely bewildered us. If you want tasty Italian food where they serve you the item as listed on the menu, with prompt professional service,...
Read moreWas here for Mother’s Day and was really looking forward to having a nice dinner with my family. Unfortunately, the service was so horrendous that it made the entire experience impossible to enjoy. We had 6:30pm reservations and even though there were ample tables available we had to wait minutes to be seated. After finally being seated we were left unattended for at least an additional ten minutes. Our waiter finally appeared and did apologize for the wait but immediately told us that our reservation was about a half hour later than the normal dinner request. (People were still being seated after us , so that was confusing) Long story short, he rushed us through the meal, tried to take our appetizers twice (while we were in the middle of eating them, no less!) He served our dinner entrees a few minutes after the apps arrived. He failed to take our drink order until we finally had to ask. We had to ask for utensils. In addition, we had to ask for the oil and bread several times. (We noticed that other tables were receiving them so that’s why we even bothered!) Was told that the menu posted outside of the restaurant was something his boss didn’t inform him about and therefore was to be ignored. Was puzzled every time we asked about something on the menu he provided.(even though he asked us if we had any questions ) I was almost afraid to order dessert which I did anyway but regretted immediately because of the attitude that was given. Geesh! I could not wait to get out of there. It’s a shame because the food truly is out of this world. I’m chalking it up to the waiter being a kid and choosing the wrong profession. (I also realize that holidays can be challenging for restaurants but that experience overall was...
Read moreWe had our daughter’s baptism luncheon at Osteria Ama, and it was nothing short of incredible. We had about 54 guests, adults and children included, and we had the entire restaurant to ourselves. The food was EXCELLENT! One of our guests has an allergy to egg and dairy and the chefs were able to accommodate to make him a special meal to fit his dietary needs.
Our menu had multiple choices, penne vodka, chicken parm rosa, eggplant parm, risotto primavera, gnocchi chicken Alfredo, and margharita pizza. The peas in the penne vodka were so fresh, I don’t think I have ever had such fresh peas! The chicken was perfect, juicy and tender, vegetables were fresh, and sauces were made to perfection. We also had fresh bread, bruschetta and Caesar and mixed salads. The bread was warm and crunchy on the outside, and the Caesar dressing was one of the best I’ve ever had.
I worked with Anisa to plan the luncheon, she answered every question I had, and I sent MANY emails and called multiple times. The other server Joseph was incredible - he was quick and top of things.
They are BYOB so we had a nice selection for our guests and we were also able to bring our own desserts. There was a table set up to display all of our desserts as well.
The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. It’s perfect for families or adults only.
Our guests were happy and raved about the food. We can’t wait to have another event here! If you’re looking to host a party, don’t look anywhere else- Osteria Ama...
