Had dinner here last night with my wife and two daughters. Based on the large number of good reviews our expectations were set pretty high. However, we ended up fairly disappointed. TLDR - won't be back and can't really recommend for the price.
The restaurant was very busy when we arrived around 6:45. We were quickly seated and placed our drink order. It took a little while to get our drinks, but it was busy and there's still a pandemic induced shortage of service workers, so, no big deal really. Kids' lemonade was ok. My cosmo was not great. My wife thought her drink was not good at all. We placed our appetizer order, which included the cheese board. I asked if they could bring some bread with the cheese board as I don't like to eat it with the crackers.
Appetizer took about 15 minutes, so again not horrible for the circumstances. The cheese board was ok - 3 local cheeses, some candied walnuts, mustard, honey and jam. They didn't bring the bread and by now the place was pretty busy so I stopped another server and requested it as we hadn't seen our server for some time. Our server stopped by about 5 minutes after the appetizer arrived to check in. We chatted about the local cheeses and she went out of her way to see if we could get them from the restaurant or locally at the farm. I asked again about the bread and she said she would bring it right away. Generally speaking the cheese board at BBC tavern or Two Stones is much better. We also got the potstickers which were ok, but not anything special. My wife got something but I can't remember and it wasn't great.
For the main course, we got the ribs, scallops, kid's mac and cheese and a spicy noodle bowl. Ribs were dry and salty. I was hoping for something like what Capers and Lemons does. This was the opposite. Just plain not good. Scallops were ok. The risotto was mushy and bland. Scallops are scallops - they were cooked correctly but no special seasoning really. There was some kind of root vegetable with it which was dry. Kid's mac and cheese was fine, albeit bland. The spicy noddle bowl tasted to me like take out chinese but a little more spicy. My wife (who is Chinese) said it was better than take out, but nothing special.
For dessert they offer a tray of 3 different parfait type cups. Both the kids got the peanut butter version. It was super dense and heavy. The peanut butter was really salty. Neither of them finished it.
So, in the end, this place is not really worth it given the amount of other choices in the area and the prices. Pick Two Stones or Capers and Lemons for better food at...
Read moreMy initial experience here was great! It was a different menu slightly than present (it was the one with butternut squash soup) and we had more brunch-ish food. However past two times, not so much (most recently 6/13/25). I've had maryland crab soup many times and know what it is as a concept. This one was way too spicy, tasted like campbell's vegetable soup just doctored up, texture of veggies were all the same and there was barely a pinch of crab meat. The mahi tacos were not fresh tasting, way too much slaw and way too tangy and fish portion too small for the dish. The spring chicken was more than just blackened, they were butchered like way overdone, very dry, small portion (everyone agreed). The veggies in general, shockingly, were all bland (potato, asparagus), literally no seasoning, and asparagus were thin like weeds and the fibrous stalks were not trimmed properly. Pork potstickers too much dough to meat ratio and the pork mix was undercooked (sauces were good though). The salmon was on a cedar plank and the plank with the salmon on it, was placed on top of the veggies (?), so needed to remove the salmon and discard the cedar, to reveal the bland veggies, underneath which was two small spoonfuls of the aioli. Salmon was cooked medium, but veggies were very basic for a place like this as above, not nearly enough aioli and dish was dry. The fresh herbs on top were good. Why place the plank on the veggies!? Cocktails, sangrias etc. are diluted. Better off getting wine (which I did eventually). We as a group decided two times in a row, so we will need to go elsewhere next time. Perhaps would try again in future on a different menu, but this was a sad miss for me. I receive no joy in writing a negative review. The service (Becca I think her name was) was by far the BEST part, she was awesome! The beet salad and flatbread was good though. Otherwise food was a total let down :(. What has happened???? Change in kitchen staff? I'm hopeful this review will serve a positive purpose because I do like the concept, but I can make better easily at home, why come? For me the atmosphere inside is okay but waaayyy too dark and live music can get a little loud. We sat on the patio for...
Read moreMay 2024: We visited the area for our 35th wedding anniversary and chose Harvest Seasonal Grill for our special dinner. Our server was as delightful and we had several laughs with her. Sadly, the rest of the experience was a bust.
I'm vegetarian and we prefer healthy dining options so when reading the menu offerings, Harvest seemed like a great place. We opted for the Spring Savings menu, a prix fixe deal. We started with the cauliflower wings which were drowned in a sweet teriyaki sauce, plus hummus which was laden with cumin but fine - I mean, it's just hummus. We were hopeful for the main dish. My husband got the cedar plank salmon with roasted potatoes and a fennel salad. All was tasty, but there was no salad and no explanation as to why it wasn't presented on the plate. I got the shrimp noodle dish but swapped the shrimp with tofu. It read like a tasty dinner option, but when it arrived I found it to be so sweet I couldn't eat it. I'm talking sweet like eating a lollipop. Inedible. But if sweet is your thing, you might be happy.
Aside: I'm a whole foods/vegetarian/vegan cook with tons of experience. My advice to the kitchen: Ease up on the white sugar. Better yet, dump it and use agave or Dolcedi to LIGHTLY sweeten a dish/obtain caramelization. A main course should never taste like desert (at the least, explain a dish is teriyaki so folks know it won't be savory).
Finally, when it came time for desert, I'd noticed that all servers, including ours who was a self-professed germaphobe, were walking around with a tray of single serve parfaits while explaining each offering to guests. These deserts aren't covered so, in essence, they are being spit on by the servers as they talk about them. My goodness, did we learn nothing from COVID!?! Please, please, put these under a cloche to avoid contamination. Obviously we passed on desert.
In summary, our very pricey dinner was a bust. I'd sum it up as a huge disappointment.
I think Harvest Seasonal Grill has the right idea however, in my experience, they're not executing things well.
This is sadly a pass from...
