My family and I were on the hunt for a new haunt and found Good Time Charli's through yelp. We visited and fell in LOVE. We've been twice in a matter of a couple of weeks and will keep coming back. Both visits were on Sundays around 12-1PM. Our first visit, we were greeted immediately by not one but 3 friendly faces. My daughter was offered to root around and pick a toy from their toy chest (thereby winning her heart) and our ear drums and nostalgia were tickled by the 90s grunge that played the entire time (winning our hearts). The second time it was country on a loop before the live music (also country) started. That was kinda meh and made the second visit a smidge less fun for us. Everyone working was smiling and seemed genuinely happy to be there each time we've been. Both times we got a table right away. The interior is very clean and the decor can be best described as what you would expect your most favorite dive bar would look like after a glow-up. The bar was full of patrons and lots of (presumably) regulars came in while we were there and were greeted by name- which we loved. Think: Cheers! Despite their creative and extensive bar menu, I stuck to a familiar glass of sauvignon blanc but did sample the Arizona Prickly Pear Mule (which was outstanding!). Now to the food.... Being Canadian-born & raised, anytime we see "poutine" on the menu somewhere, we HAVE to sample it. It's a matter of principle. The poutine fries were absolutely delicious, though the gravy was different both times- the first time it was a rich and delicious standard brown gravy, the second time it was a SPICY, spicy brown gravy- which was unusual but still delicious. They are extremely generous with the cheese curds which is not the norm (we've found at most restaurants) but VERY appreciated. We devoured the plate between the 4 of us and could have easily torn through another despite the big portion. We also got the rustic pretzel rods- they were served piping hot and were delicious (but pretty basic) but the beer cheese dip- WOW- that stole the show. For entrees, I ordered the "a la carte" chipotle chicken tacos- they were really good! The tortillas were toasted, filled to the brim w tender and flavorful chicken and the chipotle aioli was generous and also flavorful. The "walk the line" brekkie plate looked delicious (and the sausage was mindblowing, I was told). Portions are really big, so you get a lot of bang for your buck. My son got the Mac Daddy burger and really enjoyed it- it is a behemoth of a burger! My daughter got the kids chicken tenders and again, the portion was huge (adult size) so we had a good amount of leftovers (also always good!) to bring home. We sampled the fried ice cream pie for dessert and it did not disappoint! The second visit, we all opted for brunch. I ordered a pineapple mimosa (or 3) and it was very generous pour!! Not your average mostly-juice-splash-of-sparkling-wine variety. We shared the poutine fries again- this time with the rip-your-face-off-spicy gravy. Delicious, different and satisfying. My entree this time was the spinach-mushroom-onion skillet. It was good/not great but the potatoes and the english muffin were quite tasty and left an impression. The strawberry basil jam was delightful.
One thing to be aware of- and why they get 4 stars and not 5 is that service is a little slow. It's not the kind of place you want to go if you're in a hurry. It's a place to go, slow down and kick back. You will wait for service, you will wait for your food and you will wait for your check. I'm glad we weren't in a hurry when we went the first time otherwise my impression would have been marred by that. But we "get" the vibe of the place and appreciate it for forcing us to enjoy the moment and relax and we go only when we have nothing but time on our hands. It's worth the wait.
Everyone we've met there (staff and patrons alike) is friendly, engaging and happy to be there. We love Good Time Charli's and we will...
Read moreToday was the worst experience I've had in a restaurant in the last year. Charli if your reading this you better wake up, it was unacceptable. My friend and husband were left speechless. Your front manger Amy was the worst manager I've had ever experienced in a restaurant. And the second girl who came to our table and unleashed on my self my husband and girlfriend was out of line...I have been supporting gtc since they opened. I live on Kyrene and I speak to all my friends how much we like to support local places. I live close and love coming there for happy hour and burgers. My girlfriend and I come there at least once a month for past two years and was I so glad you re-opened. I even can by when you were seller tacos out side. Today's experience was the last straw. I came early cause last time the tables were gone. Or reserved yet empty so I Arrived at 4:30 only to find out we can't sit in the lounge even though there were 3 empty tables. I asked why was told the table can only be saved for bigger parties. No worries we went of the restaurant to the back. Sat down ordered drinks and food from a great sweet attentive waitress named Ashley!
So my hands needed washing. Went to rest room and look at the lounge the tables seated with only two people. I stopped and asked why we couldn't sit there she explained because we're getting full. All of a sudden this girl named Amy approached and accused me of poking the hostess which I did not, them I got yelled at for not having mask. I said sorry I forgot my mask, so I went to get it and went back to talk to her. She was completely unprofessional, Rude , defiant and confrontational. I gave up trying to explain why I asked the question and said I'd talk to Charli.
So fast forward we eat and get our bill it was $80,00 which looked like I got charged for five wines, so I asked Ashly and she explained, but all of a sudden this other girl appears and begins to insult me and my husband saying " I've been nothing but trouble since I got there' and security had to pull her away cause of her aggressive behavior. Unacceptable!!! She was ranting and complaining to m about me being trouble since I got there and we're in a pandemic.
I am a sped teacher who has been in the classroom for the last eight weeks in central phx. Working with kids wearing masks all day.
I wanted to relax in the local hang out with my girlfriend have a drink and enjoy the band and burgers. How DARE your employees treat me like that. I'm so disgusted from this experience and it cost me $80,00 before the tip. I had every right to ask a question, For a burger salmon sliders 3 happy hour wines and 2 margaritas for my husband. I'll never step foot in your business...
Read moreIt's just too bad that there isn't a way to give less than one star. I have been coming to this establishment for years..I always speak so highly of the food, the atmosphere, the staff. Tonight I found out that 'Charlie' no longer owns this place and it makes sense now when I say that tonight was the worst service/experience I have ever had ANYWHERE. The two bartenders working there were pretty much bottom of the barrel and I get it, in this day and age, it seems like places can hardly remain staffed. However, there is no excuse for arguing with customers (both bartenders were arguing with me) and there is nothing that excuses that behavior. They initially failed to place my order and forgot about it, which was fine because I get those things happen. Then they forgot mys silverware and I had to wait 10 minuyes before walking over to ask...when they brought it, the silverware was dirty which was also fine, because that is outside their control. But I sat for 15 minutes afterward needing a drink along with 3 other people at the bar who were empty and finally I had to get up and walk over to the bartender and ask for a drink- she seemed annoyed and when she returned, I was given a drink that was obviously alcohol free. I gave the drink back and asked her to remove it from my bill and I would take a shot of patron instead. At that time she never mentioned a word about not being able to remove it and it wasnt until they brought my bill that I noticed the drink was still there. I asked her ro remove it and thats when she solicited her 'henchman' (and I use that term loosely) so that they could deliver their argument and rebuttal in stereo. The point remains that if I am to be charged, then tell me when I bring the drink back and ask for it to be removed (because I am not paying for an alcohol free drink) dont tell me when you've already taken said drink and then charge me for it. What am I paying for??? A drink that you took away? This place will never see my support again. I'm so sad to see such an amazing establishment go to hell. It was one of the best neighborhood bars. I will be sure to tell everyone I know that they should not even bother coming here. In business, the fastest way to losing clientele is to have untrained staff who do not value...
