3 stars… and honestly, that breaks my heart a bit.. because the morning and mid-day staff at this location are some of the kindest, most welcoming people I’ve ever encountered at any Starbucks. They’ve always made this spot feel like a true safe haven, a place where I can relax for hours, sip my coffee, get work done, and feel like a respected regular. That kind of comfort is rare, and I want to give credit where it’s due.
BUT my most recent experience with the evening shift (specifically a staff member named Blake) left me genuinely shocked. I asked if I could purchase a cup of ice (something I’ve done many times here, including just a few days ago). He told me the “new policy” is that they can’t give or sell ice or water unless a drink is purchased. I even asked to buy an iced water, and he still refused.
For context: the store was empty. I wasn’t asking for a favor. I was happy to pay. And yet, I was denied over a policy that not only feels absurd, but wildly inconsistent. Just yesterday, the Starbucks inside Safeway down the street told me THEIR new policy is free water/ice... So which is it? It’s frustrating and frankly alienating to be treated like a problem at one location (or one shift) and like a valued guest the next moment..
After this, I walked next door to IHOP and asked to pay for a few cups of ice. they gave them to me for free, and I still left a $3 tip. Meanwhile, Starbucks lost a sale (no matter how small) and made a loyal daily customer feel disrespected.
Policies should not become weapons for bored employees to use when they’re unwilling to offer basic decency. If Starbucks wants to protect its reputation, especially with people who spend time and money there daily, then corporate and store owners need to create clear, consistent, and humane standards across all locations, and make sure they’re actually enforced evenly, not selectively.
As a person who has been on the road traveling the U.S. for 5 years and frequenting probably hundreds of Starbucks locations at this point, there is a huge discrepancy of policies nation wide. It doesn’t matter if they are franchised separately, there needs to be a humane standard that allows for people to purchase a freaking cup of ice or water.
I’m happy to change my review to five star to reflect my sincere appreciation of the morning and Mid day staff, if I feel like my point is understood.. I’d love if this could be passed on to whoever oversees policy or customer experience. I’m saying this because I care and because I know I’m not the only one who’s experienced this kind of frustrating inconsistency.
This version gives the manager (or corporate) something real to chew on — not just a complaint, but a call for clarity, professionalism, and respect for the people who...
Read moreI love Starbucks and my normal location I love but this location at Alma School & Elliot is terrible. I go out of my way NOT to go there. They are slow and not very friendly as I am accustomed to at most all Starbucks. However if I need to have a delivery it has to come from this location unfortunately. When my coffee is delivered it’s never correct! I always order whipped cream but most of the time it’s never included. I have to doctor it up to make it taste good. They fill the cup up with so much ice that you don’t have much coffee left after scooping it out! It’s not the delivery person’s fault because everything is sealed up so they are not able to check the order! The staff definitely needs more training. The last time I went into this location I had ordered my coffee ahead because I was in a hurry. It was on the way where I had to go. I was actually a little behind picking it up. When I got there they had not even started it. The drive through only had about 3 cars and there was about 5 customers inside. They had about 7 people working. I watched this guy start making my drink. It was grueling! I was fighting the urge to go back there and say “give me that! I will do it.” I really wish their management would work on this location to make it better because I know it can be because it’s...
Read moreI was super happy when Starbucks brought back their reusable cups option. As someone who cares about the earth, and that it is here for future humans, I wanted to support Starbucks in their effort to stop filling our landfills and the ocean with single-use plastic. I did not use a Starbucks reusable cup, but my own plastic free cup from Klean Kanteen. The surprise was when they used a single use cup to fill my reusable cup and then through the single use cup in the trash. I asked what was the point of the reusable cup if they were going to use and discard a single use cup anyway. I was told it was so I could use my own cup if I wanted. Screw the earth and future humans be-damned. So Starbucks clearly states there intent with reusable cups was to reduce waste and support sustainability. The corporate office clearly has some work to do at there local franchises to get them on board with there mission. I will not be spending $5 on a cup off coffee at Starbucks anytime soon. I have no interest in paying to be green-washed. I share this for my fellow human beings that care about the future of the earth and it’s children who will suffer from the choices we make. Do...
