The best part about Alpaca is absolutely its fresh, flavorful, and rich Peruvian style chicken, and prices that are affordable for all people. I ordered the dark meat, and it was deliciously seasoned, moist and tender. The fries are made from real potatoes and were addictive, we ended up ordering another round of fries and could not stop eating them. The "Arroz Chaufa" dish was good although it was bit salty and the seasoning was uneven throughout the dish, with some parts saltier than others. The chicken soup was delicious. The green beans were just okay, not spectacular. Alpaca also demonstrated stellar service from the counter staff. The staff catered to every question and request that I had with a smile, and we playfully joked with eachother during the encounter. Alpaca has a lovely outdoor seating area that is shaded, which we enjoyed on a warm and sunny spring day. The indoor and outdoor dining area are spacious and have seating that is not squished together too closely. Also, it is located in a plaza where there is plenty of parking.
Overall top notch service, a great location, lovely seating, rich ambiance, and fresh, hot food make this dining experience a dream. 5...
Read moreI really really liked Alpaca. I want to call it a hidden gem because it was my first time eating here, but I think they're a chain with a few locations so I don't think they qualify for that haha.
I recommend 1/4 chicken for 1 meal's worth, though next time might spring for 1/2 since they give so much quantity in sides. Their chicken is so tender and flavorful. I thought I didn't like peruvian chicken until I had it here. For sides, I recommend rice+beans and the green beans. I have tried the fries as well and they were extremely mid, teetering on bad and flavorless. Don't recommend those at all.
Their sauces are self serve which was nice. Their service is also very quick. They serve it the same way chipotle does, but it goes even quicker.
My total for 1/4 chicken only came out to ~$10 which I felt like was really good value. Getting 1/2 would be even better probably since it could be stretched to a...
Read moreReally good! Second time trying them this weekend actually!
Got the Qtr Dark entree, with the rice and beans, and the sweet plantains. The pricing is pretty interesting if you will -- as with a lot of these trendy places around Chapel Hill.
Under the "Sides" category, they have "Rice" listed individually, and "Beans", also listed alone..
Skip down to "Premium Sides", and what do you know -- "Rice and Beans". Two become one, and suddenly it's Top Tier -- at a price of course! 🤷🏾♀️🤣
As long as you ask for extra black bean sauce, or gravy if you're truly southern -- it's kind of delicious! 😋
If you're looking for just right-brined chicken, grilled over charcoals with a really great, fast side of white rice and beans, and plantains-- then this is your place!
Think Boston Market -- but...
