Aqua Terrace Roof-Top Bar — Restaurant in Charleston

I will start by saying that our server was in an impossible situation tonight. I think she needs coaching on how to deal with a situation like that. The location was impressive and the concept should work. But it didn’t. Now the food was OK. My group of seven coworkers ordered several appetizers and multiple different entrées and cocktails. the sliders were good, but not outstanding, I didn’t try the eggs because you’re welcome. Green tomatoes were pleasantly crispy, but lacking flavor. The brussels sprouts were cooked well and the sauce was tasty, but there was just way too much of it. I had the shrimp and grits and i’d say that it was probably the best tasting thing of the night at the table. Two people had the catch of the day which happened to be halibut. One loved it. One could’ve passed. There were two orders of the lobster gnocchi, and neither one of them were thrilled with it, One had the mac & cheese with the spicy fried chicken and that was very tasty from what I understand and the other had the seared sea scallops. She was very pleased the biggest issue tonight was the length of time that everything took. We were there for well over an hour before our appetizers started arriving. I don’t mind waiting for food truly. This was out of control. Our server made excuses and blame the Kitchen which I’m sure was the real problem but that’s just not something you do. Don’t throw your coworkers under a bus. This was not a cheap dinner by any stretch, the bill was well north of $500 for seven people. I do not believe this is a restaurant I will be coming back to on my next trip...

Went on my own excited to sit eat and look out. I went to bar and sat and ordered and not one minute later heavy smoke drifted my way. Two men smoking large cigars! Now I get it is outside however make a designated smoking area so I know what and where to avoid. I moved then to a table. My wings were very good however I was asked for dressing choice and said ranch. It came with blue cheese and after five minutes I walked back to bar and politely advised. Mark the bartender responded with yes it is wrong. Then next said” it happens”! Not sorry nothing. I then asked for corrected item and was told ok sure it has to come from kitchen. 9 minutes later is arrived. They can’t keep a little bit of condiments behind him in one of the refrigerator units? It is an ok space but not impressed. Not very nice people. I ate my wings quickly and quietly signed my bill and left. It was a disappointment at best. Lovely view and great service. The rooftop bar really, really needs fans. Especially in the actual covered bar area. The air is stagnant and stifling up there. I'm not sure how the bar staff handles it honestly in the Charleston heat, and it was dark when I was there. It must be brutal in daylight. The menu could really use a more diversified beer selection, with more local beers...
