If you have an unlimited budget, Baba’s is wonderful. The atmosphere is pleasantly busy at peak times, a pleasant bustle, especially with the delicatessen activity of Goat, Sheep, Cow which shares the building. It is plush feeling, conveying a sense of a place with history, as you might get from a nice museum cafe in Europe. The outside seating is secluded and nice. Today’s experience: 1) the avocado toast. This at once was the best avo toast I ever had. But today, the bread was thin and crisp. I liked it better when it was thicker. Presentation was lovely, thinly sliced avo, red pepper chili flakes, and flor de sal. It was overstalted, enough to burn a bit and overpower the flavor, not enough me to not scarf down both pieces. 2) The 8oz OJ: It’s six dollars. It’s almost worth it. So cold, so refreshing, so flavorful. 3) Chocolate chip cookie: delicious. Bitter chocolate, melted, pecans, a texture and that crunches and squishes. 4) Black coffee: delicious. I had to ask for a cup and saucer as they handed me a paper cup first. The fine in experience is so much better with a ceramic cup. Also, I had to ask for the cookie to be heated. They were happy to accommodate me. Overall, the price is exorbitant: 26.00 dollars for the above items. But I will keep coming back. Lastly, excellent music selection: some African influenced, jazzesque, anonymous background feel. Overall, Baba’s contributes something unique to Charleston with its class and eloquence. Its prices have grown out of proportion to its nostalgic atmosphere, but I will continue...
Read moreFirst time here and will definitely be back. The mercado is closed on Sundays and Mondays but they had lots of tasty and unique offerings to choose from. I stopped in for a quick lunch and everything looked amazing. The food was made to look just as good as it tasted and so were the drinks. Everything was made with care and precession. Even something as mundane as the avocado toast looked and tasted amazing. I'm a huge chai tea fan and theirs was one of the best I've had. Their sandwiches also were above and beyond in terms of preparation and taste. The grilled cheese was everything you would hope for in a gourmet grilled cheese sandwhich with all of the flavors made to balance and compliment one another. It's a very eye pleasing venue with both indoor and outdoor seating which also made for a great remote location...
Read moreMy first review was initially to goat.sheep.cow. Babas is a business that when you walk in you see a bar and just down the counter there a separate cheese store with no separation. As I stated on my initial first hand impression under goat.sheep.cow. I thought that I would be able to get a cheese board along with some wine. I admit my initial impression was wrong but it seems so easy to just add that option of being able to eat the cheese I buy with wine at the bar without a picnic surcharge $15. It also seems to me that it would be great if Babas would offer a few cheese board options in collaboration with goat.sheep.cow without a picnic surcharge where both businesses make money. This is just my constructive criticism so take it as you wish. The orange spritz was...
