Pisco Mar, where do I begin? We have been hoping for a Peruvian restaurant in Charleston for years. However, this isn’t just a place with INCREDIBLE food, though. We left Pisco Mar with dinner, a show, and a new friend. My husband is from Peru, so I have had my fair share of Peruvian food for the last 5 years. Esteban is a whole new level for us. The flavors in his food, brought back fond childhood memories for my husband. I still can’t get the smile off his face. If 8 courses of the most delicious food isn’t enough, Esteban serenaded us with his guitar. His voice is as sweet as his suspiro. I enjoyed listening to Esteban explains each course and a bit of its background. Watching him plate each persons food, I could tell he was so detailed and intricate with the upmost care. You can tell his heart and soul goes into each course. I had no idea, until I had a handful of my first Peruvian dishes, that their food was packed with Asian influences. At dinner, I was seated next to a man who was born and raised in Sheung Hei. One course was HIS favorite childhood dish, lomo saltado, which is a Peruvian staple. Seeing my husband, and this older man bond over the same food was something so incredibly rare and special. If you like world class, fine dining, Pisco Mar is a MUST. This is a place we’re bringing all our family and friends to experience. We are HUGE fans and so impressed. Thank you Esteban and team for a meal we won’t forget. Also, I should note that Esteban’s sous-chef and team, were just as enthusiastic about the food as we were. The whole team worked together like click work. No one ever had an empty drink (Oh, don’t get me started on the Passionfruit Pisco 🤤) and they were so professional. One of the pretty bartenders sang with Esteban and his guitar. The love of the Peruvian culture was felt through...

Read moreHands down one of the best culinary experiences in Charleston. The chef and his staff do an amazing job preparing each Peruvian course while he tells a story that explains why he choose each piece and what it means to him. Each course was unlike anything I’ve ever tasted, and I’m looking forward to experiencing the next menu that Chef Esteban Diaz creates.
For those who haven’t ever experienced dining like this, seating and dining are similar to “R Kitchen”. Meaning everyone dining is seated at the bar, courses are pre-selected and start being served promptly at the time of your reservation.
That said, the location of this restaurant isn’t great (upstairs in a shared pop up kitchen food hall) and there’s a pool table just outside the doorway that may alter some folks...
