A delightful stay (7 nites in the Cottage Suite; two-stories; tucked a bit back from the street - never, ever noisy, or crowded, and with several great dining options footsteps away). We're from Washington DC area (had never been to Charleston) and wanted first and foremost QUIET, comfort & luxury (but not stuffy), service, and convenience to King St and the historic area. We got ALL of the aforementioned. Seriously, I had spent hours on-line researching options and reading reviews. (A close second was Zero George - an amazing option I'm sure -- but we made the better choice for us.).
We wanted to relax, do a bunch of walking, and leisurely biking in town (thank you for the free bicycles!), enjoy good food options, and be able to unwind in roomy, light, and airy space, luxurious comfort (yes, top-notch King bed; and two comfortable couches, and chairs; bathrobes; coffee machine with great options)
Breakfast: Fresh quiches, etc. from amazing bakery down the street, homemade yogurt and granola, berries, hard-boiled eggs - a favorite of mine, freshly squeezed juices, etc. etc. Wine & cheese hour was fine - glad to have the option (we're not wine & cheese people), but happy to be able to bring back to our room.
Plenty of dining options in this part of town. Crazy crowded, though, and hard to find quiet as the spaces are small. Dining on Cannon: Yes to soup at Ladles - low-key comfort food; enjoyed The Grocery, fine-dining, very, very much. Be sure to visit Bad Bunnies coffee, a few short blocks away, for some of the best coffee I've ever had. I'm a decaf drinker so I care about the flavor for realzie.)
Thank you for tending to every need and making us feel so welcome. Hats off to the young women who took care of us: Karli, Megan, Madison (new employee - great job!), and to our housekeeper Lu. Sometimes the thermostat did its own thing - or perhaps we were tech-challenged (?!) - sometimes difficult to keep rooms evenly cooled/warmed, so be sure to ask for help as our caretakers could control the temp remotely. (Hey, you'd think we'd been paid off if I didn't find something to mention, right?!). Don't need to post photos, cuz theirs don't lie!
With appreciation for amazing service, hospitality, and a truly needed getaway....
Read moreMy husband surprised me with a Charleston weekend for my birthday – one last trip before our first baby arrives! He pulled up the 86 Canon website to show me where we would be staying and I immediately knew we were in for a treat. Two days later, we journeyed to Charleston. As we entered the charming grounds of 86 Canon, we were greeted by the sweetest welcoming committee - Gus and Sully. Abbey and owner Lori were waiting for us and we immediately struck up conversation as if we were talking to old friends. They offer a welcome glass of champagne to all of their guests and if I was not pregnant, I would have certainly enjoyed the offer! Abbey walked us to "The Loft" while giving us a tour of the home, every detail somehow more beautiful than the one before. Our room was charming and spotless. Beam ceiling, a bathroom so beautiful we wanted to take it home with us, and colors that made for an instant respite. The wine and cheese hour was lovely and the breakfast the perfect jump start to our day. The location was a quick bike ride from our favorite Charleston musts, including "The Ordinary". We spent every moment of our 24 hour stay on the complimentary bikes, with the exception of meals, sleep, and a bit of shopping! Marion, Lori, Abbey, and Bethany you went above and beyond to ensure we had the best stay…and even beyond our stay after Sunday afternoon’s “happenings” ;). We will most certainly be back and in the meantime, will continue to reminisce on the sweet memories made. God bless you all –wishing you the very best for a long, successful...
Read more86 Cannon was the most luxurious bed & breakfast we've ever experienced! It was more like a small boutique hotel (aka fancier and cleaner than other B&Bs we've been to) with the intimacy and personality of a B&B. We were greeted by Lori upon our arrival, who was very friendly and personable. She gave us a tour, offered us refreshments, and showed us to our stunning room. The decor style of historic luxury was on point! We stayed on the top floor, which we had to ourselves. The glass enclosed shower with the exposed brick chimney behind it was stunning and unique. 86 Cannon definitely felt true to Charleston architecture and we received five star Southern hospitality during our stay. We were able to learn from owners Marion and Lori about the design of the building and enhanced our knowledge of Charleston history. We were so thankful to have chosen 86 Cannon to stay and would recommend it to anyone!
Some other perks we enjoyed included breakfast served from 7-10am with a selection of yogurt, granola, fruit, local biscuits and pastries, quiche, and beverages. Wine and cheeseboards were offered at 5pm daily, which was a fun time to get to know the owners and other guests. There was ample parking on the property, which is rare for this area. The robes and bedding were also very comfortable! Thank you,...
