I checked out Second State while visiting Charleston recently and it was quite good! I don’t have many complaints about the iced latte that I got - you can tell they use high-quality beans here, and it satisfied my craving for a coffee drink, that’s for sure! For a regular iced latte (with some orange syrup that I added), I was happy with it.

I was honestly pretty disappointed, though, because I had seen pictures of their menu from other people on Google Maps, and it looked like they had some super unique specials. I always LOVE the more unique coffee creations these places come up with, so when I came in and asked what their specials were, they didn’t really have anything like the pictures showed. They just said they stopped these types of drinks a few years ago and all they could do was “add an orange syrup to my drink”, for instance. That was a big let-down. I feel as though if I’m gonna go all the way to a coffee shop and spend a decent amount of money for a drink, it needs to be worth it and not just a standard cup of coffee - it should be something I can’t easily make at home! So I don’t understand why this place would stop their creative drink options, but I hope it’s something they consider doing again! Huge missed opportunity there!!

Other than that, the actual coffee itself is really good, so that’s why I’ve still given a good rating. If they add a few more creative drinks on the menu, while still maintaining the quality of coffee they offer, this would easily be a 10/10 coffee shop that I could recommend to anyone...

Absolutely wonderful place - like a breath of fresh air in West Ashley. My husband and I went to Broom Wagon Coffee for the first time to celebrate his birthday. We strategically chose Wednesday morning around 9:30am due to the fact that we have an 18 month old who we had to bring with us. With that being said we don't often go out and not usually to a coffee shop since often times we get looks due to the loud chatter of our toddler. When we entered it was absolutely beautiful the decor, cleanliness smell of fresh waffles and coffee was very welcoming. The menu was perfect not pages and pages of options but easy choices that you knew were going to be perfect when they came out. Everyone made us feel so welcomed and when the toast, waffles, and coffee came out each item was better than the one before. We will be visiting again and will be passing along our great experience to everyone we know in Charleston. Thank you for allowing us as a family to have an amazing breakfast for my...

I stopped by Broom Wagon on their grand opening day, but I originally sampled their coffee at Harold's Cabin downtown, for a special coffee tasting class, and from that point on I was a fan. The location is easy to find, but harder to see from the main road. Plenty of parking on hand (for free). Walking in, you can smell the fresh pastries, the coffee brewing, and the wonderful smells of the kitchen. I ordered a chai with milk and an avocado toast. I've never had one before, but it looked amazing, so I thought that this was a good time to live on the edge and try something outside of my comfort zone. It was amazing. Like guacamole on bread with a roasted slice of red tomato on top. I'll definitely be back to try out more options, and encourage you all to do the same. The owners are great people, and the coffee beans are all responsibly sourced and roasted by the business. As fresh as...

Second state coffee was a great find during our short stay here in SC. My wife had a Chai latte and a blueberry waffle and had a regular latte. The drinks were phenomenal and the waffle was cooked to perfection. Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. It's a 100% must trying these waffles. The person helping us at the front was very helpful as well. My only complaint (which I don't think can be helped) is that it was incredibly loud when they made their drinks. The clinging of the utensils hit a decibel level that pierced the ears, more than other coffee shops I've been to. We ended up doing an outdoor seating which helped. I don't think that deserves a dropped star because everything else was great.

At first, walking in, it looks like a cute café with shaded seating outside. Walking up closer, I noticed dishes and trash and tables are a mess. When I walk in, I was greeted, but was unaware of where to place my order. I ordered a tea, coffee, muffin, but one of the muffin warmed. Unfortunately, they do not have an oven and I like my breakfast warm. I wish I would’ve known before I ordered the muffin. The muffin was great though.(coconut vanilla). The outside it was shaded, but the bigger benches took up too much room. I didn’t order the waffles but they did look delicious.
