Big Apple Deli — Restaurant in Charlotte

I have been buying from this Restaurant for four years, have turned plenty of my friends and family on to big Apple, today I order the same thing every time perch dinner no slaw add okra with fries, I've spoken to one of the twins manger/owners previously about my hush puppies and fries being cold, he apologizes so I had decided to continue to go back, when placing my order I make sure I ask a couple of times for my fries and hush puppies to be hot, I hadn't eaten all day today I was gonna go to Popeyes or Publix for chicken, but I decided to call to see if the Big Apple was back from vacation I'd get my usual fish dinner ,the service today was not good the fish wasn't seasoned like normal, the fish was finger sizes pieces overly cooked, they cut down on the size of the hush puppies, they are really tiny now , hush puppies were old and cold, fries were cold with the exception of a few hot ones mixed in, which was unsatisfactory to me ,big Apple was my favorite place for perch fish, I did call today talked to the twin manger when I got home, he apologized as usual but after four years they still can't get it right, and sell me hot sides with my dinner, I paid $16.45 today that's the new price up three dollars, i was totally unsatisfied with the whole dinner, it's hundreds of other restaurants I could have gone to, I will NOT be going back as of today , I see they never did appreciate my business , I worked restaurant for many years when I was younger, I made it my business not to sell ANYONE cold food, it's just no excuse it's poor service, no one should have to pay for cold food, do better big Apple you're actually getting...

I discovered this place on the side of Compare Foods because a friend of mine likes to frequent the restaurant. The seafood orders are tasty but for this to be "Greek owned", their Gyro 🥙 is definitely lacking. I didn't like it at all & would never order the gyro from this restaurant again. The service at the counter, upon greeting, or no greeting - I should say - is atrocious & leaves something to be desired, in my opinion. The lady who's supposed to be greeting customers, filing orders, & the first person the customer sees or deals with,... isn't friendly at all. Yet, the one time I've been in during lunch they had a full house... Guess a lot of people overlook bad customer service for food, or it's just very convenient to their work. My friend also bragged on their banana pudding, which looks good in presentation, but tastes like paper with huge banana chunks. I make much better at home on my stove. That's the only dessert I've tasted. Hopefully their other desserts are much better. As I stated, I went here because my friend, who has a disability, loves the food here, but the customer service is lousy to me, & the lady could use some manners, so it would NOT 🚫 be a place I voluntarily support with MY dollars🚫! I have a troubling update after visiting Big Apple recently. I arrived excited to try their wings and greek food.

After receiving my check, I noticed a 3.99% Credit Card fee, never mentioned anywhere in the restaurant, the ordering process, or my check preview. Upon discussing it with the staff I was told it's "Not illegal" and that they only had to show signs detailing the ambush for a month. I understand that CC fees are an annoying part of doing business.

This little surprise being legal has no bearing on how upsetting it is. I don't care about a trivial amount, but when I had enough cash in my pocket to pay for my food and instead got sprung with a fee, it doesn't feel like helping a small business out - it feels like thievery.

Big Apple has 3 really simple choices:

Stop charging a credit card fee Increase their prices by ~4% amount. Offer a 4% cash discount. Just put up a sign so people can make INFORMED CHOICES about which payment to use

The current situation is absolutely unacceptable, and I've NEVER seen it happen at another restaurant. Next time I have a hankering for Big Apple I'm going to call and see if they have stopped stealing from customers. If they have, I'll update this review and restore my rating. If they haven't, I...
