Holiday Inn Express & Suites Charlotte- Arrowood by IHG — Hotel in Charlotte

I made the mistake of staying at this IHG property for three nights in December of 2024 and I do not recommend you stay here especially if you value your safety and personal property. My wife and I stayed here between December second and fifth as we were volunteering in the local area. When we were getting ready to leave on the morning of the fourth at around 7:30 am to drive to our volunteer location I noticed that my tonneau cover that was locked was open. Upon further examination I noticed that someone had pried open the tonneau cover damaging it beyond repair in addition to causing damage to the top of the tailgate that will cost several thousand dollars to replace and repair. After taking photos of the damage, I proceeded to ask the IHG employee at the front desk if this property had cameras recording as I would like to obtain footage of the incident where my vehicle was vandalized for insurance purposes. I was told the incident happened around 2:30 am and the individual was caught by police. I was further advised by the female employee who, not surprisingly, was not wearing a name tag, that I could not get any of the camera footage, that this happens a lot, and there was a recent story in the local news about car break ins. She provided no assistance whatsoever but thanked me for letting her know that it was my truck that was vandalized. I have never seen such a flippant, uncaring, and unsympathetic response to someone who just had their vehicle vandalized in a hotel parking lot where this employee works! The least she could have done was offer her sympathy and to see if there was anything she could do. Later that morning my wife tried calling the front desk to talk to Gloria Bell, the general manager. After she called several times, and no one answered the phone, she was finally able to get someone on the phone and was told by the front desk employee that Gloria would not be in today. Later that day I checked the local crime data and found that between June 11th and November 25th there were eighteen crimes reported at this address, and fourteen were reported as larceny from a vehicle. It is extremely disturbing that an IHG property that has a severe problem with crime does nothing to prevent it from happening and in doing so endangers the safety and security of its guests and their property. If the general manager, Gloria Bell, sincerely cared about her patrons she would hire security for her property or contact other hotel general managers in the area and hire a security firm to deter this type of crime from occurring. Apparently, this solution is not a viable one as the crime at this hotel has continued for an extended period of time and nothing has been done by the general manager to prevent it from happening in the future. Do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere if you value your personal property, safety, and want to avoid your vehicle being vandalized. This IHG property does not deserve your money or patronage as they put you at risk when you park in their extremely unsafe and unsecure...

Originally, myself as well as my husband had agreed to not say anything about this to anyone up until the point when we were told, “it’s a hotel” and that was it. With that being said, on Saturday, September 30th 2023 my family wanted to have a quick family trip to Carowinds. Our children love swimming pools so we did a search to find a hotel that has an indoor pool for them to play. We then decided to stay at Holiday Inn Express & Suites Arrowood. Holiday Inn

All around this was a very nice hotel. However, on Saturday night when we were finished with the day’s activities we decided to order some food and eat dinner. While doing so, our daughter was sitting on a desk chair beside the tv and eating. Not long into dinner a very large cockroach began to crawl up my daughter that appeared to have come from an outlet in the wall which was slightly pushed out exposing the interior of that wall. This traumatized our daughter. My husband quickly caught the roach in a cup from the room and covered it with the plastic sleeve that held the cup. Afterwards, my husband took the roach downstairs to the front desk where he was very careful not to alert any other guests by asking the gentleman working to step back into the office area. My husband showed the gentleman what we had found in our room to the response of “it’s a hotel” and that was it. My husband but his lip and took the roach outside of the hotel to release it. My husband then came back up to our room, “Room 408” and told me what was said. My husband asked for me to wait and not do anything drastic until at least the next day so the hotel management could have time to at minimum contact us and apologize for the incident. On the following day, Sunday, October 1st 2023 we checked out of the hotel. Before leaving I asked a different gentleman working at the check in/out counter if the incident was reported. This gentleman knew nothing about what happened and had zero response beyond “was it a big one”? In all of this time no one thought to apologize for what happened or anything. In this day and time things like this cannot be tolerated.

We are furious at the lack of hotel responsibility for this situation. Our family trusted holiday inn express hotel to provide a clean, safe and happy environment. It is very unfortunate to experience this level of blatant disregard for responsibility as everything else about our stay was very nice. When it comes to this kind of situation in the hospitality industry especially, everyone who spends their very hard enough dollars deserve a far better response than “it’s a hotel” or “was it a big one”. Please stay away! ...
