I live next door to this place and have been going for two years; it’s a solid meal with good flavor and no nonsense, if you’re patient.
The MVP dishes are the wings and the Cheesesteak. The wings are rock solid and they have too many flavors to recall from memory. So far all of them I’ve tried have been good, some great, but none of them bad. The wings themselves aren’t going to win awards but they are not skimpy or cooked to death and beyond. Best wing spot? No. But that’s not why you’re there, you’re there for a good meal that doesn’t cost a shitload, with no frills.
The cheesesteak is actually pretty great despite not being remotely close to an authentic Philly. It’s not massively filling but the French fries cover the rest of your appetite and are pretty rad French fries.
I have one actual complaint, and only the one: ticket times. This location always seems to be in need of one more kitchen crew to get the ticket times down. 20 minutes for wings and fries is WAY over par for even the bougiest of wing spots. Unless it’s a whole turkey leg of a wing, a batch of wings should take about 6-7 minutes in the grease at 350. Fries less time. There’s something in execution: either the amount of hands on the line or the process/system that gets orders to the pass, that is causing the gridlock.
The ambiance, if you would be snooty enough to call it that… is Efficient. Nothing Fancy, as it should be. Come in at lunch and you’ll see tons of first responders and Charlotte Douglass employees grabbing a quick bite on their lunch break, and come dinner time the variety opens up to the rest of us working stiffs on Tyvola.
As for specials/weird unique dishes? Tried the Chicken Masala Sub today, not sure it’s a winner. American Cheese is a weird AF choice and I couldn’t even get the sub to my face before 2/3 of the meat fell right out of the ass-end of my sammich. Oddly enough, the American Cheese thing wasn’t gross, but I still think there’s a better cheese for this sub-that-should-be-a-wrap.
TL;DR version: This is Unfussy Fried Food Goodness that could use 1-2 extra line cooks during rushes because 20 minutes is a long damn time for a Blue...

Five stars all the way for Chex...
Read moreChex has been our go-to place when we are craving some wings. They are reasonably priced and have so many great flavors to choose from! One of their downfalls is that even when you place your order a head of time, you still end up waiting for your order to come out when you arrive to pick it up. It’s something that we have brushed off and don’t worry about since the wings are great. Unfortunately, we recently had a bad experience on Super Bowl Sunday. My fiancé called in the morning to inquire about the best time to order a large order of wings. Knowing that it would be a busy day for them, he wanted to make sure timing would work for the staff at Chex. We arrive to pick up our order, which they said would be ready on time, no problem, and one of the girls at the register said IT WASNT READY and they would start making it right then and there… we are obviously upset because we called in advance to try and prevent this exact situation. We are waiting there for about 20 minutes, the game has started at this point and we are now late to our event where people are waiting on the wings. One of the guys at the register asks what we’re waiting for, we tell him and he says “it’s right here” - it was ready at the counter from the beginning…! They did have it ready for us like they said they would but the one girl completely missed our large order and told us it wasn’t ready. We are obviously really upset for this mishap and then the girl has the nerve to give us, the customers, an attitude, when she is the one who flopped. Because of this particular girls poor and unprofessional behavior, we haven’t returned to Chex and don’t plan to. Everyone else at this establishment has been nice but all it takes is one persons disrespect to make a customer want to discontinue their...
