Great Wall of China South — Restaurant in Charlotte

I've, literally, been coming to this restaurant since I was a kid. There's no doubt they've been thru some ups and downs during that time, (been open for 40 years!)! I'm shocked by some of the reviews I'm reading. Clearly people from the same table are posting repeatedly, others about random things, giving one star over the price of soda water while at the same time raving about how great the food and service was! I mean, ???? I'm confused by the general lack of perspective and sheer maliciousness of some people! But welcome social media and everyone is entitled to their opinion, so here's mine...

After several really great experiences lately, I went in Friday night to get some food to go and have a glass of wine and appetizer, (steamed veggie dumplings-delish!!!), while I waited. Amy, the manager, was squeezing fresh limes for their home made margarita mix (Thursday night special), I was surprised a Chinese restaurant would take so much care on their cocktails! But after talking with Amy for a while I see that this long time iconic neighborhood restaurant is trying to make a come back and bring back local clientele-I say they are doing a fabulous job! Wine special Tuesday, Martinis Wednesday and (Homemade) Margaritas Thursday: Revised and consolidated menu for quality control, and special attention to details!

I've popped in several times in the last few weeks for Togo orders rather than just calling in as I've done for years. Each time Ive had wonderful interaction with entire staff, receive quality food and beverages at a reasonable price, and encountered other guests being very sociable (neighborly). It's been a lovely experience all around and am enjoying making it a weekly stop!

Used to be my goto place for Chinese food. Service used to be excellent, and food always a 10. Until... tonight. Restaurant was a little busy, but wasn't a wait. Waiter came to the table and took our drink orders and returned promptly. He took our food order, not written down, repeated our order and nope he didn't remember. We gave him our order, pretty basic, Chicken and Broccoli (not spicy) and Beef and Broccoli, wonton soup and an egg roll. Pretty simple I thought...well maybe not. Wonton soup and Egg Roll, came out fast, and piping hot. Our entrees came out, Chicken and Broccoli, was not (not spicy) however the Beef and Broccoli was fine. Chicken and Broccoli, yes I know is usually spicy, but was asked for not spicy. We got the attention of the waiter and told him order was not right. We told him not spicy, maybe he took as it wasn't spicy enough, we later found out when he returned with the order and it was hotter then I would normally eat it. We sent it back the second time found a different staff member than our waiter and he stated that it would come out correctly the next time. It later came out after I had just about finished my meal, and it was Chicken and Broccoli not spicy. We assumed that for the errors, we would at least been compensated for their lack of completing the order. The manager on duty was, is, my opinion, not ready to be the go to manager. She finally did remove the item from the ticket, but stated that they had made the meal 3 times and 2 times it was thrown in the trash. Customer service goes a long way, but we will not head back that way again. There are other restaurants...

Absolutely horrible experience. We were seated and drink order was taken by that person. Few mins later drinks were dropped off by a different person who said waitress would be over to take our order. Then 10 mins later someone came over and asked us if we wanted appetizers which we did and ordered Crab Rangoons and Spare Ribs. This person said someone would be back to take our order. Never happened. The apps came out and the guy said again someone would come take our order. So we ate our apps and still no one. No one even acknowledged us, I had to flag someone down and I said "I think our waitress has forgotten about us..." The man says "what do you want" ummm to order? Hes like "Yes, what you want just staring at us, no smile or apology. So we ordered and got our food about 10 mins later. Had to wait forever for our check. I think we had a different server every time someone stopped by. The Crab Rangoons were simply not Crab Rangoons. There was no cream cheese flavor whatsoever. I am not sure what they were, but not what I was expecting. The Shrimp Fried Rice tasted ok but the Shrimps were full of poo. Not deveined and completely packed with poo. Just disgusting. Wonton soup flavor was good but the actual wontons must have had a teaspoon of ginger in them. Strong and not really what I was expecting in a wonton...Whole dinner sucked. To top it off there was vomit all over the womens bathroom floor. No idea why this place was full. Many great chinese restaurants around,...
