Jeff's Bucket Shop — Restaurant in Charlotte

⚠️NOT SAFE, WOMEN BE CAREFUL⚠️ After a few good experiences at Jeff’s, I decided to come back with a group of friends. It was over crowded with poor music choices- however, not the issues at hand. My issue is that when I excused myself to go to the bathroom, the door did not lock. Because of this, I had my friend hold the door for me. While in the restroom, someone nearly busted the door down trying to get in- which they almost did because as I mentioned, the bathroom door would not lock! When we came out of the restroom, which we were in long enough for me to use and get out asap, we were met by a rude security man saying that we had to leave. I understand that multiple people should not be in the bathroom at the same time and for good reason- but even after trying to explain the situation the man was very rude and said he did not tolerate this behavior and that we had to go. As my friend had said- if they were not there with me, it could have been anyone trying to get into that bathroom- and they would have been able to. My intuition told me to take a friend and I am glad that I did. I can only imagine what could have happened to me, or any other woman, using that restroom by themselves if someone really wanted in. I went and told my other friends what had happened and we left. The only friendly staff person we encountered all night was the taller bouncer who checked IDs as we came in. Again, I respect rules and understand that they are in place for a reason, but I was humiliated twice to almost be walked in on while using the restroom and then again when we were treated so rudely after trying to explain the situation. Ladies- this is not a safe place to come for a girls night, or even in general, especially if the doors to the restrooms do not lock. I had loved coming to Jeff’s in the past for the fun atmosphere and dive-bar vibe, but after that night I will never be back. This is not a safe environment and the staff is very rude. Absolutely racist! I am livid! Never before have I experienced racism…until tonight! I was naive to the reality of the world we live in until tonight! I recommend NO PERSON OF COLOR to ever walk in this building and feel of equal status to anyone who is white! I came out on a night of celebration with my black co workers expecting to have a night of karaoke and fun but instead we were literally blackballed by the “DJ”, as he repeatedly told us that people were paying for their time…as me and my black co worker watched several people perform several times despite us signing up! There was no discretion and my co worker wasn’t able to “perform” until several Caucasian people performed before her…despite performing previously…apparently they “paid” $50 for 2-4 mins of karaoke to skip the three black people that signed up immediately after them but still performed several times despite us never being called until cited. I left without performing…disgusted at and appalled with the blatant racism or preference for those “who paid” and those who were unfortunately black and uninformed! I will NEVER step back in an establishment that is so blatantly skewed by color and not energy! We spent over $175 of our hard earned money to be degraded in a place we expected to treat us based on the content of our character or at least by the currency we spent and not by the color of our skin! I am not a man who treads lightly accusing an establishment of such treatment. I do not rest of my ethnicity until I was forced to, tonight! I pray the owners of the establishment read this review and absolutely disagree with the way we were treated tonight and if not, so be it! But I’ll say this…for the first time in my adult life…I know what it feels like to be horrendously black...

10 of us came out to Jeff's Bucket Shop with some stand up comedians after a show. Someone recommended that we go sing karaoke. DJ Jend was running the karaoke and while there were over 100 people in the room and most of them were signed up to sing, she apparently took a $100 tip from another customer to allow only their group to sing.

We were there three hours and from the 10 of us, one of us got called up while that other group sang at least 2-3 times each. Every other song, and sometimes back to back, were from their group. We came to sing and have a good time, but instead we were treated to an awful show by some terrible singers who were apparently able to buy the mic for a measly $100.

First time I'd been here in 2 years, and every time before was a great time, but if I ever come back and DJ Jend is running the show, I won't stay. I recommend getting someone who actually puts the people on the list up on stage. Should have taken a picture, but if you could see the lists and how the entire yellow notepad was filled with names and songs, but only the group was crossed out while the other names were ignored.
