There are people who will curse me for this review but for anyone wanting an honest review (as they should all be) this is one IN MY OPINION. I found LONDA'S via Google search. I called to find out about the menu and Ms. Londa answered and her disposition was so sweet and soothing ...honestly at that point her Spirit drew me there ahead of the many options she named. Upon arriving, two customers were leaving and I asked what to order...they said "everything...you can't go wrong" Ms. Londa was seated taking orders and immediately I recognized her voice. I ordered the oxtails, mac n cheese, cabbage, cornbread and a side of pigfeet, fatback and peach cobbler. She explained that the oxtails are not Caribbean style which I reassured her I just wanted some good southern oxtails (like I grew up eating). She let me taste the gravy of them first and although it wasn't spectacular...I still wanted oxtails and didn't think you could really mess up oxtails. I can't say enough about the service and the vibe....it was AMAZING...but the food left much to be desired for me. The oxtails were not good, they tasted like "meat" as though they were just rinsed and thrown in the pot and the seasoning was to be gotten from the gravy. I used some hot sauce to help get them down but couldn't finish them. The cabbage was GOOD for me! The mac n cheese was not. I LOVE macaroni"crust" but this one came out with a hardness that indicated the cheese on top was of low quality, even the inner parts were not good. The fatback was PERFECT! The cobbler crust was GREAT, I am not a fan of allspice or nutmeg in my cobbler and this had it (I meant to ask first)...but it was still good. The pig feet were cooked a little too long and again, just smelled and tasted like "meat". The hot sauce helped some but I almost couldn't get past the smell. (Speaking of smell, whatever they wipe the tables/chairs down with has a smell that lingered during my whole experience and it wasn't pleasant...it was like a cleaning rag that needed to be washed or the water refreshed.) I grew up eating all of these foods cooked in my Mama's kitchen and I can prepare them in my own as a woman now, I just didn't feel like cooking. Oh I almost forgot ...the lemonade is GREAT! Ms. Londa came by to check on me and although she said to let her know if something was...I knew they couldn't make a new pot of oxtails for me or pig feet. I did mention the macaroni and she brought me another helping along with a side of yams. The YAMS were sooooooooooooooooooooooo GOOD. It is the only thing I brought home to actually eat later. But the mac just wasn't good. I have had much better at various places. Ms. Londa is a GEM and I appreciated her sweet Spirit. From me calling to me leaving, one of the best customer service experiences I have ever had. Food...the fatback dipped in the yams is WONDERFUL...I probably won't be back unless I get a taste for fatback yams and lemonade. I was underwhelmed overall but appreciative of the service and kindness extended. There are many people who LOVE the food so I recommend trying for yourself. we all have different tastes and expectations of food. This was MY...
Read moreFrom the time this place opened I have given it a few of my dollars here and there because in this area restaurant options are slim to NONE. The owner Londa is friendly and nice to the guest but it doesn't feel genuine just feels like she is doing it because she is the owner She Micro-manages her food servers -She makes sure they give out "Small portions" You are guaranteed to be hungry after you finish the under seasoned overly priced food. One thing you can count on is Mediocre food every time you visit. The Macaroni and Cheese is Nasty! The rice is horrible tastes like some Box rice or bag rice with absolutely no flavor- one of my go to orders is the stewed chicken but guess what you CAN NOT substitute the nasty "box" rice that comes with the meal for Mashed Potatoes If you substitute it you lose one of your sides and if you don't want to sacrifice a side its an up-charge! Guess what I sacrifice a side every time because the sides are always Under Seasoned! Corn, Greenbeans and Cabbage just BLAND! The stewed chicken itself is hit or miss either the chicken will be seasoned or it will not be and those thighs and breast are the SMALLEST Cuts of meat I have seen in my entire life! but then the Fried chicken looks like it has been shot up with all of the HORMONES the USA has to offer and is as big as an Cow! & Don't call yourself getting "picky" on which pieces of meat you want that could irritate your server and they are not afraid to tell you NO! When they first opened up I told my mom who also lives in the area to give them a try -her verdict was food wasn't all that and was under seasoned and she hasn't been back It is me who gets hungry and desperate and instead of giving in to the fast food options in the area - I tuck my tail and go in to still be under whelmed but I tell myself at least it is cooked food that doesn't have all of the preservatives that fast food has - The last straw was me visiting on my lunch break last week and the food was just NASTY and BLAND I must now join my mom in never returning
P.S... Be careful about all these "positive" reviews they are more than likely coming from her Church Family that packs this thing...
Read moreThe thought of talking my dad to a cafeteria style restaurant for Father's Day was a mental adjustment. His request. Right from the start the staff was friendly and offered service. It was mentioned that the menu was posted on the wall. Once you see the banana pudding, caramel cake, peach cobbler and so much more, who is looking at the wall. The collard greens, black eyed peas, candied yams, macaroni and cheese, oxtails, fried chicken, fried fish to order, ribs, pig feet, string beans, corn bread, corn bread dressing, turkey legs, wings, need I go on. It tastes like you remember the best you've eaten. I was so surprised that the greens were not salty and the peach cobbler was perfect, not too anything but good. The owner/ manager was diligent in making sure her guests were happy. The prices are great too. Better get there quick before they go up. Great staff. We all had a fun time.
It's February 15th and we're here for another celebration. They haven't changed, still excellent service. I hear they are lined up outside the door on Sunday. This time I had my favorite with vegetable sides. I noticed one thing in common on the plates of others in our party. The delicious macaroni and cheese. Some ordered fish to order ( not available Sunday due to crowds). Other orders were oxtails ( good southern style), crispy fried chicken wings, pork chops (comes w/ two), meat loaf, fried chicken and more. I photographed the meat loaf. I know, she has two starches and has already taken a few bites out of the meat loaf. Must try. Your wallet won't be...
